 HEALTH EDUCATION CURRICULUM

The following will be required for this class:
1. 	Textbook: “Glencoe Health”
2. 	A notebook - 200 pages or more
3.	Two Pocket Folder (to be used for Health hand outs and HWs only)
4. 	Loose leaf paper for all HWs
5. 	Blue or black pen, a Red pen and a #2 pencil

Health and Wellness		Tobacco
(Nutrition)			Alcohol
First Aid 			Illegal Drugs
CPR				Sex Education, including STDs and AIDS
Stress				Skin and Hair

Requirements:

1. 	Grading will be based on tests, projects, worksheets, completed 
homework assignments, and participation in class.  An average of the above 
will determine the student’s grade for each quarter.  Projects (.25), HWs and 
Worksheets (.20), Tests (.45), and Participation (.10)

2. 	Projects are due on the DUE DATE.  There are four (4) Health Projects 
assigned during the school year.  The students will receive the requirements 
and explanations of the project well in advance of the deadline date.  Any 
Project handed in one day late will receive a grade of 75% provided all 
requirements for the Project were meet.   If a Project is not handed in a 
grade of ZERO will be given and averaged into the THE QUARTER GRADE.  All 
Projects are worth 25% of the quarter grade.

3.	Homework is to be handed in on the DUE DATE.  Questions and Answers 
are to be written on loose leaf paper.  Returned homework assignments are to 
be kept in a 2 pocket folder and used as a study guide for upcoming test.  
Completed, handed in homework assignments count as one grade, which will be 
added into the quarter grade.  The Teacher has the option of detaining 
students after school if homework assignments are not handed in, in lieu of 
detention.  Each HW is worth .10 points in the overall homework grade.  If a 
students hands in an assignment one day late, she will receive .05 points for 
that assignment.  If a student hands in an assignment two days late she will 
receive a grade of 0% for that particular assignment.  If three HWs are not 
handed in a Not On Task Detention will be issued and your parent/guardian 
will receive a Progress Report.    
	Late assignments are discouraged because they will adversely affect 
the student’s grade.  All HWs are corrected during class time with a RED 
pen.  Absentees are required to do the HWs and hand them in on time when they 
return to class the next scheduled class meeting.  You are to PRINT the word 
ABSENT on the top of any absent HWs and LATE on the top of any late HWs that 
are one day late. 

4.	Absentees are required to find out about missed assignments, work 
sheets, and tests.  You are required to make-up any test on the next 
scheduled class meeting.

5.	Home Work Heading will be as follows:

6.	FIRST QUARTER PROJECT
	
COLLAGE DESCRIBING YOURSELF - DUE DATE 9/18 for ABEF and 9/22 for CDGH classes
(this counts for 25% OF 1ST QUARTER GRADE).

Cut out pictures and words describing yourself from magazines or newspapers 
and Paste – Glue (do not staple or scotch tape) them on CONSTRUCTION PAPER 8 
1/2 X 11.  Be prepared to give a short, oral presentation about yourself 
using your collage.  Remember to fill in the entire construction paper with 
your words and pictures.

This Project is due on the Second Class Meeting of the Second Cycle.
