St. Dominic Religious Education Program

The goal of the Religious Education Program is to share the Good News of
Jesus Christ with families of the Parish. Of course we can’t do this without
volunteers. Please consider the ways in which you could best serve this
faith community. You might feel called to work directly with children.
Perhaps you would feel more comfortable helping out behind the scenes by
volunteering in the office, making phone calls, or preparing a mailing. All
efforts are appreciated. Please indicate which of these rolls would interest
you.

CATECHIST (Teacher)
Catechists support parents as primary teachers of faith by providing a time
and place for children to gather together to pray and learn as a small
community. Catechists are responsible for preparing and presenting lessons
with the help of their grade level coordinators with whom they will meet with
up to four times per class year. Catechists are also required to attend the
faith formation sessions “Echoing the Word.” This is a 20 hour program
offered over a two year period. Those who are interested in becoming a
Catechist will meet with the Director to discuss both the rewards and
responsibilities of this ministry. No prior teaching experience is necessary
for catechists; only a willingness to learn, a desire to share faith and a
commitment to worship in a Catholic Community.

GRADE LEVEL COORDINATOR
Assists the teachers on their grade level by setting meeting dates, helping
with resource materials and being a support with any problems that may arise
during the year. Works with Director to set curriculum and chapter date line
using the assigned textbooks. For Sacramental years (First Eucharist and
Confirmation) the coordinator will also assist with scheduling rehearsal
practices and special projects.

ASSISTANT CATHECHIST
Assistant Catechists work with the Catechists during class time. They are
welcome to attend both grade level meetings with the coordinators and the
faith formation sessions provided by the Parish

FAMILY MASS COORDINATOR
Works with the Family Mass Committee and our staff to schedule grade level
masses during the year. Also helps with the planning of these Family Masses
which may include phone calls to parents.

BABYSITTER
Babysitters are needed to provide care for the young children of Catechists
and Assistant Catechists while they are in their classes.

OFFICE ASSISTANT
The Religious Education Office always needs people who can offer tech
support, make phone calls, sort mailings, or help in a variety of other ways.

HALL MONITORS
While classes are being held, adults ensure the safety of the children and
assist adults who have questions regarding early pick-ups and other matters.

If you are interested in any of these rewarding positions, please contact the
Religious Education Office at 922-7788.
