Announcements

Please make certain your child shows all work for word problems in Math on
their homework Math worksheet. They must write the equation they used to
solve any problem. It is not enough to just give an answer. I must
see "how" they arrived at their answer. They must also label their answers
as stated in the problem. (ex: 5 ducks, 6 apples etc.)

Remember to save Box Tops and Campbell Soup Labels as well as used ink
cartridges from your printers. These items help provide funds for
educational equipment for our school. Send them into school in September.

                            General Classroom Information

1. Each child may bring in a coloring book, puzzle book, a card game, or any
other activity book to use during indoor recess when they can't play in
the schoolyard due to the weather. No electronic games of any sort are
permitted.

2. Please sign and return any of your child's test papers.
Review and correct any errors. Sign all homework and the daily planner.
Please refer to the homework requirement letter for information on how I
expect homework to be completed. This is available on the Classroom
Information page on this site.

3. I will be using Dictionaries in class. Please make certain that you
have the Scholastic Children's Dictionary at home for homework
assignments. This is the dictionary requested in the school supply list and
displayed at the Parent Orientation Meeting in September. ALL children must
have a copy of this dictionary.

4. Please remember to send in a morning snack and boxed juice drink or
bottled water each day. Soda, candy, or glass bottles are NOT permitted.

5. Science notes and Social Studies notes will be stapled into the
children's notebooks each month. Please see they are studying these notes
in order to be prepared for tests. Check the calendar page for the dates.

6. Children may bring in cupcakes, munchkins,or cookies to celebrate their
birthday in school. They may also choose to bring in jello cups or a fresh
fruit treat. Whatever is sent into school should be enough for the children
in our class. They are not to bring in goody bags or drinks. Please advise
me in advance as to what you plan on sending into school. The children will
distribute this treat in the classroom during our morning snack time.(after
10:00 A.M.) Summer birthdays will be celebrated in June.
I will not permit children to distribute birthday party invitations
unless every child in the class will be receiving one. I will not have
any child's feelings hurt in my class. The same procedure is
to be followed for giving out valentines and Christmas cards.(Please
note: For safety reasons I am not permitted to give out class addresses
    or phone numbers.)

7. Extra help classes are offered once a month after school from 2:40-3:15.
These classes are for children who NEED help in Reading or Math. I will
send home a request if I feel that your child will benefit from these
lessons and should remain after school if possible. Parents are to sign the
permission slip and return it the day of the Extra Help Session and not
before this date. If you feel that you want your child to attend a session
because of a difficulty you have noticed please write me a note requesting
that he/she attend and send it into school the day of the Extra Help Session.
I do NOT want any notes prior to that day.
NO CHILD WILL REMAIN IN SCHOOL WITHOUT A PERMISSION SLIP
    FROM A PARENT OR GUARDIAN.

8. An absent note is required any time your child returns to school after
any absence even if you have called the school office. Without a note the
absence is recorded as unexcused. Absences for family trips or vacations
during the school year are recorded as unexcused absences since the school
calendar provides time for vacations.
Requests for homework assignments when a child is absent are to be made by
phoning the school office before noon. This work will be provided at the
end of the school day or can be sent home with a sibling if requested.
There are forms for an absent note or a request for the Extra Help
Sessions for you to download on the Classroom Information page if needed.

9. If it is necessary for you to pick up your child earlier than the
dismissal time please send in a note with your child on the morning that
this is to take place so that I may have adequate time to prepare. It is
very difficult to stop teaching to pack up one child. Your child must pack
up and take home any assignment that he/she is missing and complete it at
home in addition to the daily homework assignments. Our dismissal time
is different from the Pre-K so please make some arrangements to
plan on having your second grader complete OUR school day and be
dismissed at the appropriate time.

10. If a child arrives at school late he/she is responsible for
completing any classwork covered in class. It may be necessary
for them to complete this work as part of their homework assignment.
We follow a set schedule so it is VERY important that the children
arrive on time each day in order to keep current in their skills.

11. I do not tutor any child in the morning before school begins.
That is the time I use to set up materials and prepare for the school day.
If your child is having any difficulty, please write me a note and I will
be more than happy to address the problem in class during the school day.

12. All home/school correspondence is to be handled by writing a note
to me. I DO NOT e-mail parents! If you need to speak to
me, call the office and I will get back to you within 24 hours as stated in
the school handbook. If a conference is necessary please submit a written
request and I will get back to you to set up a time and date which is
convenient for both of us.
