11/20
Another wonderful week in the fourth grade! We were fortunate enough to have
Josh Nichols from 10NBC come into our classroom to talk about the weather.
He said he would try to mention St. Lawrence on his weather forecast tonight
at 6pm.
We also had Chief Petty Office Roger Rebman from the US Coast Guard come in
to speak to us about the coast guard. It was a wonderful presentation, the
kids seemed to really enjoy it. Because of the rain, the students weren't
able to go onto the 40 foot boat he brought with him; Chief Petty Office
Roger said he's bring it back for the kids someother time!
We are continuing to do our literature circles in class. The literature
cirlces are student led, and I walk around and try to meet with each group.
So far everyone is doing their jobs appropriately and they all seem to be
gaining a lot of meaning from their books.
Next week we hope to watch Indian in the Cupboard, please look for that
permission slip and sign it. The movie is a PG movie. We will be having
popcorn and drinks too!
We just finished chapter 4 in religion, and we will be getting ready to
celebrate the Advent Season in our classroom. The students brainstormed a
list of kind things we can do as a class as a community service project. For
Thanksgiving, we made centerpieces that were donated to a local nursing
home. For December, we will be making paper wreaths to donate to a different
nursing home. Thank you again for your continued support while we try
to "give back" to our community.
Everthing else is progressing; Explorers in SS, Life Cycles in Sci; and we'll
be leaving graphing and moving into chapter 3 of our math books (associative,
commutative and identity properties.)
There will be no spelling for the next two weeks because of Thanksgiving and
the Parent/Teacher Conference.
The week of Parent/Teacher Conferences we will be going on a field trip to
see The Fantastic Mr. Fox! The students don't know yet, I haven't told them!
Have a great weeekend!
:)
