What time does school start?

The school day starts with the first bell at 8:05 A.M. when
prayers begin, followed by morning announcements. Homeroom begins
with the second bell at 8:15 A.M.

Children will be considered tardy after 8:15 A.M.

Chronic lateness (3 or more lates in a week/8 or more lates in
one month) will result in time spent in the Reflection Room.

Is there any math extra credit given?

There is one five-point extra credit given every month (with the
exception
of December, May and June, and occasionally February). September
and
October's extra credits are applied to First Trimester tests.
November and
January's extra credits are applied to Second Trimester tests
while February's through the end of the school year apply to the
final
semester.

The extra credit is posted on the bulletin board as well as on
the website.

What if my child is absent?

For a student to progress well, it is mandatory that he/she come
to school
EVERY DAY. Absence from school is always a detriment to the
student's
progress. If your child is absent from school, you MUST call the
school
prior to 10:00am on that day. In addition, a written note must be
presented
to the teacher when the student RETURNS to school.

What is my child responsible for when he/she is absent?

All missed classwork as well as homework is to be done on
looseleaf and
handed in no later than the Friday of the week they return to
school. If
your child will be absent more than one day, please make
arrangements for
someone to bring his/her books home. Failure to hand in the
missed
assignments in a timely manner will result in zeroes for both
homework and
classwork for the missed days.

There are no excused absences unless you are ill or there has
been a death in the family. A student is required to attend
school every
day. Promptness is also required. Please try to schedule
vacations during
the 13 weeks we are off from school.

If a student misses an exam, he will only be allowed to take a
make up if
there is a documented emergency or illness (doctor's note
required for a make-
up exam). More than 10 absences (other than illnesses) in a
semester may
result in a full grade reduction.

What are the requirements for promotion?

A student's yearly average in each subject must be 70% or over in
order for
a successful completion of the class. Failure to do so will
result in the
student having to attend summer school for that subject.

If a student fails three subjects for the year, retention may be
necessary.

How can my child succeed in school?

Note-taking and organizational skills are essential to being
successful
in school and in life. Vocabulary index cards should be reviewed
and
studied every day. Reading daily, whether it be books,
newspapers or
magazines, can help a student struggling with comprehension
skills. Turning
in homework assignments on time, participating in class, and
coming prepared
to school (pens, pencils, graph paper, looseleaf, homework etc.)
are also
important factors in doing well and succeeding. Failure to bring
workbooks,
notebooks and textbooks to class results in the student falling
behind.

What is the purpose of the Reflection Room?

The Reflection Room is a resource room made available during
lunch
to students who do not follow the rules. Once the student eats
his/her
lunch, he/she must complete an essay on why they broke the rules
and how
they plan to better follow the rules in the future.

More than three Reflection Room notices will result in the
student receiving
an unsatisfactory grade in conduct on their Report Card. A
student forfeits
the right to dress down days when she/he is sent to the
Reflection Room 4 or
more times.

Copies of Reflection Room logs are attached to Interim Progress
Reports and
Report Cards. If a child has accumulated many logs, then copies
may be
mailed home periodically throughout the year. If the
inappropriate behavior
continues, the student and/or parents will meet with a tribunal
of teachers.
