How to choose a just right book?
Just Right Books are books that are "just right" for each student. Below are some tips, that the students have learned, to help them choose the perfect books.
1) The I P.I.C.K Strategy is a great way for the students to PICK the perfect book!
Students should ask themselves, "Why am I reading this book?" "What is the purpose?"
Students should ask themselves, "Do I like this topic?" "Will I be interested for the entire book?"
Students should ask themselves, "Do I understand this book?" "Is it too hard to easy or just right?"
Students should ask themselves, "Do I know most of the words?" "Can this book pass the 5 finger rule test?"

The Five Finger Rule is a great trick for the students to choose books that are on the right level. Here is how it works!
1) Choose a book.
2) Flip to a random page with lots of words.
3) Start reading in your head or in a whisper voice.
4)Each time you come to a word you don't know, hold one finger up.
5) When you are finished with the page, look at your fingers and follow these rules.
5 Fingers up: Too Hard
4 Fingers up: Just Right
3 Fingers up: Just Right
2 Fingers up: Too Easy
1 Finger up: Too Easy
0 Fingers up: Too Easy!
