My Discipline Plan:
My goals:
•I will emphasize prevention rather than remediation in classroom management.
•I will systematically approaches teaching by planning and preparing well in
advance; setting expectations and teaching the standards of behavior at the
start of school and reteaches as necessary.
•By providing appropriate, well-prepared lessons and activities that engage
the learners, I will prevent most misbehavior.
Effective classroom management plan:
•Plan classroom procedures and rules carefully with students the first day of
school
•Consistently teach students procedures and expected behaviors.
•Monitor student work and behavior closely.
•Deal with inappropriate behavior quickly and consistently using the PEP
model.
•Organize instruction to maximize student task engagement and success.
•Communicate directions and expectations clearly.
Analysis and reflection vis a vis a discipline plan:
•Is it working? [for all but a few?]
•Why isn't it working? [review the plan]
•Have I really implemented the plan with consistency?
•Have I consulted with counselor, parents, administrator?
•Do I need to modify the plan? For all? For some individuals?
Student Motivation:
•Attractive, enriched environment.
•Material at a level that challenges but can be understood.
•Teach to individual learning styles.
•Clear expectations and consistent class control.
•Make learning intrinsically interesting to students by relating lesson
content to the student's life.
•Vary the lesson presentations, use a variety of audio-visual approaches to
keep teaching from going stale.
Parental Involvement:
•Develop open lines of communication with parents based on mutual respect.
•Encourage positive parental involvement in my classroom.
