VIRUS PROJECT
Project Overview
Good health is something everyone takes for granted - until you or someone very close to you gets sick. Scientists have been investigating who gets sick, why they get sick, and how they can recover for centuries. For thouands of years, people believed that diseases were caused by curses or evil spirits. In the 21st Century we now know that pathogens or germs (disease-causing agents) like viruses or bacteria bring on illness.
Project Objectives
The objectives of this project include: 1. to research an assigned virus 2. to create an informational brochure including these Information Points: **name of virus and viral disease it causes **virus type/structure (DNA virus or RNA (RetroVirus) **tissues virus attaches to **severity of viral disease (does it cause illness, disability, or death) **how virus spreads **symptoms of viral disease **treatment of viral disease (are vaccinations, antiviral medicines available?) **recovery time **any lasting effects of virus
Project Details 1. A virus will be assigned for you to research 2. You must use internet sources for your research 3. You must gather research on each Project Objective information point 4. Using the research you have gathered create an information brochure on your virus 5. This project is due on Thursday, February 11, 2010 6. This project counts as 1 test grade for the 3rd Marking period

Scientist Research Project
Project Overview
Throughout history, women and men scientists have impacted every area of life with their imagination, knowledge, discoveries, inventions, and cures. This project is designed to offer you a glimpse into the life, work, and impact of a scientist.
You will have the opportunity to research a scientist, write a research report on their life and achievements, create a visual representation of their life and work, and present your findings to your peers.
This project has 3 (three) parts: ** a 5 to 8 page type written (12 font) research paper **a visual representation of the scientist's life and achievements **an oral presentation of the scientist's life and achievements
Each part of the project equals 1 test grade for a total of 3 test grades for the 2nd Marking Period.
This project is due on Monday. January 11, 2010
