Course Overview

Students will be surveying American history, geography, government, and economics. In preparation for the eighth grade New York State Social Studies Test, students will receive the necessary skills and knowledge of American history, which includes the following curriculum sequence:

* Note: I ask that students hold on to their 7th grade notes through next year, as they will help prepare them for the end year assessment

Method of Study

Students will use a variety of learning styles in learning American History. Maps, timelines, charts, graphs, and various reading and writing activities will give students a strong foundation. In particular, there will be a heavy emphasis on writing throughout the year. Additionally, interdisciplinary projects with seventh grade English will enrich student understanding of the materials and ultimately enhance student achievement.

Grading Policy/Homework

Student performance will be assessed on the following criteria:

Homework is of the utmost importance to seventh grade Social Studies. It serves to reinforce the day�s lesson and to introduce topics of the following day. Homework will be given on a regular basis and is expected to be completed that night. Any late homework will receive half credit for the first day late and will not be accepted after the second day from the due date. Students are required to have a homework buddy in the event that he/she needs to find out about missing assignments/notes.
