FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
Lessons meet on a rotating basis. For most students, lessons will be the same day of the week each week but a different period. This way the students don't miss the same class every week. The most a student should miss a particular class is once a month. The specific period depends on your band director. What happens if I have a test the same period as lessons? You stay in your regular class and take the test. You make up the lesson the next day. This is the only time you should stay in your regular class during lesson time. What happens if I miss lessons? If you miss a lesson, irregardless of the reason, you must make up the lesson. You should make up the lesson the next day during the same period that you missed it. You will officially have one week from the missed lesson to make it up. If you don't make up the lesson, you will receive a zero for that lesson. What happens if I have lunch during my lesson? You must still go to lessons, but you will have a shorter lesson so that you have time to eat. You should try to bring a bag lunch on days when this happens. What book do I need for lessons? Your specific book can be found on the Supplies List page of this website. You will need a folder as well as your book. How do I find out what my assignment is for the next lesson? Your teacher should tell you at the end of each lesson. If you still need the assignment I have my lesson groups assignments posted on a bulletin board in the lesson room. Feel free to check it whenever you need. Where can I purchase supplies? A good place to start is by checking the links page on this website. I have a few vendors listed where you can purchase materials from lesson books, reeds, valve oil, drum sticks, mallets, and much more. I also have order forms at school that the students can take home and order materials as well. How do I get into the Jazz Ensemble? The Jazz Ensemble is an auditioned based group. The audition takes place in September and the group meets once a week for the entire year. Listen to announcements for specific dates and times. What if I want to buy a new instrument? You should talk to your lesson teacher about different models and brands. A good place to look to purchase a new instrument are the links found on the links page of this website. How do I make-up a missed lesson? You should make up any missed lesson the next day during the same period that you missed it. You technically have one week to make it up but should do it as soon as possible so you can get the new assignment and start working on it for the next lesson. Any missed lesson that is not made up will be given a zero for that lesson. Remember, missing a lesson doesn't hurt you, not making it up does. |
