We know we're a few days late on this, but we've FINALLY posted the 5 Finalists for our Best Website contest on our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/TeacherWebInc. When you&nbsp;need to contact me via e-mail, you can now use the link on the left of the page, or directly at tcatapano@valleystream13.com Reading Unit of Study We will continue to read informational texts and utilize the elements of non-fiction to aid our comprehension. The children will try to discover the important information that an author wants us to learn by using these features and discuss main idea and detail. We have also begun a unit of study on Cynthia Rylant.&nbsp; The children are exploring her texts to notice beautiful and powerful language, vivid verbs that she uses to help a reader visualize and the way she structures her texts. Writing Unit of Study As &nbsp;some children finish up their poems they are taking the&nbsp;knowledge that they have learned from our non-fiction unit of study and using it to help research&nbsp;a topic they would like to learn more about. We&nbsp; have been working hard finding important information that we will add to a published book about the topic. Math Our next unit in math focuses on money.&nbsp; We will learn how to count&nbsp;coins to $1.00&nbsp;and show different coins that can be used to make the same amount. Now that we are finished with money our next unit is telling time to 15 minutes, 5 minutes and elapsed time. Science Our Houghton Mifflin Science program will focus on three areas of science:&nbsp; Plants &amp; Animals&nbsp;&amp; Living Things, The Earth's Surface, and Matter &amp; Energy.&nbsp; Our next unit is on "Matter."&nbsp; We have been studying the properties of matter, states of matter, and how matter can be changed.&nbsp; Following this our last unit will be on energy.</div>
