1. Read over and over the READING STRATEGIES for Answering Multiple Choice questions.
a. Determine the genre of the passage. Is it fiction, a first person narrative, a third person narrative, a biography, a play, a poem, or an informational text?
b. Determine how the text is organized. Is it Cause & Effect, Compare & Contrast, Chronological, or Problem-Solution?
c. Do F.U.N.- Find, Underline & Number the detail that answers the question.
d. Eliminate obviously wrong answers that have nothing to do with the question and the passage.

1. Copy and read over Writing Strategies for Answering Short Response questions.
a. Read the question. Underline key words.
b. Restate the question as your main idea (first) sentence.
c. Find first detail in the passage that supports the main idea. Underline it and write it as your second sentence. Begin with "First."
d. Find second detail in the passage that supports the main idea. Underline it and write it as your third sentence. Begin with "Second."
e. Find more details to support the main idea.
2. Copy and read over Writing Strategies for Answering Extended Response Questions
a. Read the question. Underline key words.
b. Restate the question in your Introduction or First Paragraph.
c. Restate the first question as your main idea in the Second Paragraph. Find two or more details in the passage that support the first question. Underline and add after the main idea. Use transition words - First, Next, Also, Then, Furthermore, In Addition, Last, or Finally. 
d. Restate the second question as your main idea in the Third Paragraph. Find two or more details in the passage that support the second question. Underline and add after the main idea. Use transition words - First, Next, Also, Then, Furthermore, In Addition, Last, or Finally.
e. Restate the two main ideas in the Conclusion or Fourth Paragraph.
