Homework is an essential component to your/your child's education. It provides
you/your child the opportunity to review information which was taught in
class. Homework also enables you/your child to discover new facts or
information and to develop questions that the teacher can answer during the
next class period. Believe it or not, homework is a great way to study for
tests and quizzes.
Homework is assigned on a nightly basis, usually, so please check your child's
planner, every night, to make sure they finished all assignments. The planner
can serve as a valuable tool for communication - feel free to write notes to
your child's teacher, they will read the note and respond. It is important for
your child to have a routine, i.e. before going out to play all homework is
completed and planner has been checked, or before the TV/video games are
turned on, all homework and planner have been checked. Regardless of method,
the most important aspect of any routine, is that it must work for your family.
If you notice your child falling behind in his/her studies, we have project
homework, an after-school opportunity to complete assignments with the
assistance of two Van Wyck teachers.
Remember when completing homework it is important to minimize distractions,
such as TV, radio, video games, etc. This might not work for everyone, so it
is important to find what works best for you and your child.
