Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are pleased that your child will be on Team F this year. With
your encouragement, your child will be a part of an exciting and
rewarding experience. To ensure that your child has a productive
year, please review all the material sent home in the Van Wyck news
letters, student handbook and school behavior code.
Since success depends on discipline, we have developed a Classroom
Discipline Plan which will guide your child in making good decisions
about his/her behavior and thus can learn in a positive classroom
environment. The plan outlines our classroom rules, rewards and
consequences for appropriate and inappropriate behavior.
To encourage students to follow class rules, we will reward
appropriate behavior with frequent praise, computer time, library
time, homework and classwork passes, pizza and ice cream parties,
and special class activities. However, if a student chooses to
break a rule, he/she will fail to earn points that can be traded in
for the classroom rewards.
All school assignments are included in our discipline plan.
Completed assignments earn points for our discipline plan while
incomplete assignments cause a student to lose points.
Our grading policy for academic grades is as follows:
1) All assignments are accepted until the last day that marking
period in which the assignment was given.
2) Late assignments will be decreased at 2 points per day with a
minimum grade of 50 if handed in by the end of marking period.
Otherwise, the grade will be recorded as a zero.
In order for this plan to have its greatest effect, we need your
support. Please discuss this letter and the attached classroom
rules policy with your child, then sign it and return to us. Thank
you in advance for your cooperation.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. We are
available for conferences before and after school and you may call
227-1700 to schedule an appointment.
