About The Teacher Label:
About The Teacher
This is my 13th year at Van Wyck Jr. High School teaching the 6th grade self-contained classroom. I use a multisensory approach to teaching using a language based curriculum and have found this approach very successful for the students. I teach reading, language and social studies. I am thrilled that I was asked to take on the challenge of this teaching style and find my various trainings extremely interesting. I have two children of my own. A son, Erik, who is 15 and is attending Poughkeepsie Day School. A daughter, Juliana, who is 10 and attending public school where I live in New Paltz. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to hear more about our day and any further questions regarding my program. I will try to post all the homework assignments on the web page each night for your convince. I prefer to be reached by email and can respond to your questions and concerns much quicker this way. bethanne.dearce@wappingersschools.org Mrs. DeArce
Mission Label:
Mission
My mission is to provide a comfortable and safe learning environment for the students in order to open the students minds for learning. Using a language based approach, I am aiming to dramatically increase the students reading, spelling, writing and grammar skills. Based on many educational researchers, it is very important to connect outside-of-school and inside-of-school literacy and learning. This means that I need to learn the interests of each one of your children and link learning strategies based on their interests. This will motivate and excite your child to learn. Literacy does not only mean reading anymore. Literacy now covers a wealth of areas including reading, writing, content area textbooks, music, magazine, technology to name a few. I will do my best to find each child's individual interests and build on that to make their learning experience exciting.
