Friday, December 18th

Thank you to all the parents who contributed to the recent Adopt-A-Family Bake Sale, either by baking, working the tables, or both!  Our team raised $330 to help Van Wyck families in need. If you are missing a container... have your child pick it up in Mr. Currier's room.

SCIENCE TEST: TUESDAY, DEC. 22nd.

~ Students should have been studying for this test as there is quite a bit of material and they were given the study guide last week. DON'T WAIT UNTIL MONDAY NIGHT!!!

~ Students should be re-reading and paying attention to the main ideas of the summaries for each section of the Magnetism Packet.

2 THINGS TO BRING AFTER THE BREAK:
      * 1   D-Cell Battery, preferably Duracell or Energizer (the cheaper ones really don't work well)
DBATTERY.jpg

      * We need shoe boxes!  The first 30 students who bring in a shoe box for Mr. Currier, and the first 30 students who bring in a shoe box for Mr. Glaser will receive a pass of their choice.

WORTH SEEING....

Many of you are familiar with Google Earth.  They now have a feature called 'Street View'.  Check out these incredible, interactive panoramas of the ancient ruins of Pompeii. You will be able to scan left and right through the ruins of this ancient site.  Very cool!

From what I've been told,  some (especially) older computers may have trouble displaying the features of Google Earth, so please be aware of this before you proceed. The link took me directly to the 'site' without having to  download anything.

Pompeii is a ruined and partially buried Roman town-city near modern Naples. Pompeii was destroyed, and completely buried, during a long catastrophic eruption of the volcano Mt. Vesuvius spanning two days in 79 AD.

The volcano collapsed higher roof-lines and buried Pompeii under 60 feet of ash and pumice, and it was lost for nearly 1,700 years before its accidental rediscovery in 1748. Since then, its excavation has provided an extraordinarily detailed insight into the life of a city at the height of the Roman Empire.

We will be holding our bake sale this Thursday and Friday for our Adopted Family.

To those of you who have offered to bake and/or donate your time at the bake sale table, THANK YOU!!!!

We are still in need of more baked goods and could use more volunteers to help us on the bake sale days.

If you could help us by baking or volunteering on EITHER of these days, we would GREATLY appreciate it.

Please email or send a note with your child, but we need to know by tomorrow, Wednesday.

ALSO... there have been questions as to whether or not families can make cash donations.  If you prefer to help out in this manner, please send cash IN AN ENVELOPE LABELED: Adopt-A-Family

Thank you for your support and generosity!

Tuesday, November 24th

First and foremost, we would like to wish our Team 6C families, a very Happy Thanksgiving.  We would like to wish you all the very best as this wonderful season of  thanks and giving begins.

Along those lines, please be aware of the following efforts underway by the Van Wyck Community to help those in need during this holiday season:

1) Ally Brundage and Amanda Scirbona, 2 Team 6c students, are organizing a bake sale next week to try and raise money for our Adopt-A-Family program.  PLEASE SEE THE INFORMATION SHEET THAT IS COMING HOME TODAY.

2) The Van Wyck school community is involved in the Annual Van Wyck Food Drive.  From Dec. 1 thru Dec. 15, items will be collected for Van Wyck families in need.

Students were given an information sheet yesterday, describing what is needed for the drive.

Again, thanks for all you do to support the Van Wyck community.

The collection will run the rest of this week through October 2nd.

  PTA NEWS
  • The QSP fundraising order forms are due back to school with your student this Friday, September 25th! Please consider supporting this event - we are hoping that this is the only fundraiser of this size that we will need to run this year. 50% of every sales goes directly back to the PTO to help fund many of the great events/programs that are run for the students. Without fundraisers like QSP, many of these events would not be possible.
  • The Book Fair is open tomorrow and Friday during all lunch periods.  Listen for contests to win a $10 gift certificate!! Watch and see what Mr. Shuchat is going to do if we reach our $450 in Dollars For Books.

1) It was wonderful seeing so many parents at Parents as Partners night.  Thank you for coming!

2) REMINDER: Student photos are this Wednesday, Sept. 23.  All students must have their photos taken for the student ID, even if they are not interested in purchasing the package.

3) It looks like the link to the social studies text book on-line has been activated.  The on-line text is best for reading the chapters.  Sometimes, end of section assessments are not matched correctly to the hardcover text.  In these cases, using the text book for these assignments would be best.  On-Line Text:(http://teacherweb.com/NY/VanWyck/Glaser/hf4.aspx)

Tuesday, September 15

Greetings parents.  This is our first Team 6C Newsflash (applause!!!).  We will use this feature whenever we want to share 'news' with you.  (Sorry about the subject line - I forgot to change it from last year's farewell message to parents!!!)

Many of you may have heard the train metaphor by now: Last week, students showed up at Van Wyck Station 'C' and got comfortable on the train.  Then it slowly left the station...  This week we have been picking up 'speed'.  Students are getting better at knowing the daily routines, they are getting better at showing up to class on time, etc.  By next week, the train will really begin to speed up.... and away we go, destination: June of 2010.

We'll talk more about how things have been going and our routines and plans for the coming school year this coming Thursday evening, from 7 - 9,  at our annual parents as partners night.  Hope to see you there!
