MONDAY, NOV. 2

  • RAMP AND BALL LAB - FINAL COPY: New Due Date - MONDAY, 11/9
  • SCIENTIFIC METHOD TEST - TUESDAY, 11/10

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 2

  • COMPLETE:
    • Conclusion ( see below )and Source of Error
    • ROUGH DRAFT everything in the lab instructions except for the Data Tables and the Graphs.
    • NOTE TO PARENTS:  Students were given instruction sheets for doing Data Tables and Graphs on a computer (Tables: MS Word / Graphs: Website).... they may use the computers here at school if there is no access at home, or... they may do by hand but it must be GORGEOUS!
  • CONCLUSION: ITEMS TO INCLUDE -
    • TELL WHAT HAPPENED:  In conclusion, I have gound that when the ball was dropped from a higher release point, the distance between bounce 1 and bounce 2....
    • TELL IF IT DID OR DID NOT MATCH YOUR HYPOTHESIS
    • USE DATA (Numbers) TO SUPPORT YOUR CONCLUSION: I know this because  when I released the golf ball from the 10cm release point, the average of the 3 trials was _______ cm.  When I released the ball from the 40cm release point.....
    • TELL WHY IT HAPPENED:    As the ball was released from higher points on the ramp, it increased in speed/velocity/momentum, and hit the ground with more force, causing the ball to.....

THURSDAY, NOV. 5

  • Hunker down and be prepared....
    • Ramp and Ball Lab - Due Monday
    • Sci. Method Test (study guide!) - Tuesday.

MONDAY, OCT. 26

  • Ramp and Ball Packets:
    • Make sure that the following information is now recorded in your packet:
      1. Problem Statement:  See packet cover sheet
      2. Hypothesis: IF the height of the release point increases.... THEN, the distance between bounce 1 and bounce 2 ________ ? ____________
      3. Materials list:
        • Here is an update on the list
          • No need for masking tape
          • 22 gauge electrical wire
          • 2 ft. 1" x 2" wood strip
            • *** Many of the MATERIALS on our list qualify as CONTROLLED VARIABLES, but many don't.  Make sure that you know the difference between what is 'equipment' (materials) and what is a necessary constant to conduct the experiment 'accurately'.
            • *** Also, there are CONTROLLED VARIABLES, that are NOT on the materials list (picture the ramp!)
      1. Variables: Independent, Dependent, Controlled
        • Independent Variable:  The height of the release point.
        • Dependent Variable: The distance between bounce 1 and 2.
        • As discussed in class with both groups, the controlled variable for the distance between the bottom of the ramp and the floor is going to be a challenge to record, given the quality of our equipment
        • But for now, it's important that whatever the height of your ramp end > floor is, that you keep that the same for all your trials and for your data table.
TUESDAY, OCT. 27
  • See above for Hypothesis and Variables
  • NO HOMEWORK
WEDNESDAY, OCT. 28
  • COMPLETE:
    • Data Table just for your group: Make sure that TOTALS and AVERAGES are correct (round off all numbers before adding and dividing).
    • Make sure your hypothesis, variables, and...IMPORTANT: your materials (equipment list) is accurate.
THURSDAY, OCT. 29
  • Ramp and Ball Lab: Class Results Data Tables
    • Add up total group averages  for the 6 groups in the class, then figure out the average for all 6 groups.  MUST BE DONE FOR CLASS TOMORROW!

FRIDAY, OCT. 30

TUESDAY, OCT 20

      * Using the draft of the data table that I put on the board today, (see below... there should be  lines separating the different catagories, but I couldn't figure out how to do it on this web program!!  )

WEDNESDAY, OCT 21
~ HW was on board, but postponed....

THURSDAY, OCT 22
~ Tonight students should ROUGH DRAFT (not in package) the INDEPENDENT (think about that ramp and the release points!), the DEPENDENT  (think about what we're going to do when the golf ball bounces), and the CONTROLLED (what's on that materials list?) VARIABLES!

~ ROUGH DRAFT - NOT IN PACKET!!!!!!!!
