SCIENCE 21 COURSE SYLLABUS
1. Course Description:
A. The name of our science curriculum is Science 21. Science 21 is an inquiry based approach to science, with an emphasis on investigations that are relevant to your everyday life. Topics of study include the scientific method, energy, astronomy, and environmental issues. We will also be discussing current events in science.
B. Students will be assessed on tests, quizzes, labs, and projects.
2. Textbook, Handbooks, and other resources:
We will be working with science 21 kits, therefore there is no textbook. You will be required to keep all handouts in your binder in an organized manner. The binder will act as your at home text, so please stay organized!
3. Classroom expectations and procedures:
You will have science homework at least two nights per week. Your homework grade is based on whether or not your homework is completed neatly and carefully, with effort. As a result, if your homework is well done, complete, and on time, your homework average will be a 100%. Each incomplete homework assignment will reduce your final average by 5 points (see homework policy).
All tests, quizzes, lab reports must be signed by a parent or guardian.
ABSENCE:
You are responsible for all work missed during absence from class. This includes music lessons. It is your responsibility to check with the teacher to confirm work missed.
4. Required materials for class:
The following must be brought to class each day:
v Binder with appropriate science section
v Loose-leaf paper
v Blue or black pen
v Pencil
v Daily planner
v Completed homework (when assigned)
5. Grading procedures:
Your grade for this class will be based upon the following:
50% Tests, Lab reports, Projects
25% Quizzes
25% Homework
All work completed will fall into one of the above categories. You will know in advance the % assigned to each assignment.
