Current Health Event Responses

Three, 1 page health article responses will be completed by each student throughout the 10 weeks. One of the articles will be started in class. The other two responses will be completed by the student as homework. Each article response will be worth 50 points.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Find a current health article from a newspaper or magazine. (Newspaper or magazine articles found on the Internet may also be used). My advice is to pick health topics you are interested in or want to know more about. This will make it more beneficial to your learning.

2. On a separate piece of paper (or typed), include the following:

A). The student's name and the date.

B). The article title, and source (ex: Title: AIDS in America. Source: Poughkeepsie Journal)

The 1page summary and reaction statement should answer the following questions:

C). What was the article about? Summarize the article in YOUR OWN words. This should be approximately 1-2 paragraphs.

D). What was surprising, shocking, interesting, etc. about the article to you? What was YOUR opinion of the article? This should be about 1 paragraph.

E). How does this article relate to YOUR personal health? This should be approximately 1-2 paragraphs.

BE SURE TO ANSWER ALL 3 QUESTIONS!!!

3. The summary should be typed or written in blue or black ink.

4. Students need to write the summary using complete sentences, proper grammar, correct punctuation, and proper spelling.

These directions are also a page number in your binder, and include a rubric on the back. Refer to your binder for the rubric and specific due dates.
