Dear Future Van Wyck Griffin,

It is with great pleasure and excitement that we welcome you to 
sixth grade! We hope you had an enjoyable summer and that you are 
looking forward to entering Van Wyck in September.

Expect this year to be both interesting and challenging! Please do 
not spend time being anxious and worried about transitioning to a 
new school. We will do all we can to make your sixth grade year a 
smooth and pleasant experience. 

Below is a list of supplies needed by the end of the first week of 
school. Please remember that these supplies should be checked on a 
regular basis and replenished as needed. It is important that each 
student has these supplies in order to stay organized throughout the 
year. Enjoy the remainder of your summer vacation!

4 one-inch binders (We suggest green, black, red and blue, but if 
you are having trouble finding all four colors, please feel free to 
substitute.) 
2 fabric book covers (example: Book Sox)- one regular and one jumbo 
sized *Available at AC Moore, Jerrick�s, and various dollar stores. 
4 packages of looseleaf paper 
2 composition notebooks (black and white) 
1 two-pocket folder for computer lab 
1 two-pocket folder with 3 hole punch/fasteners (for daily planner 
and homework) 
large pack of pencils and a small pencil sharpener 
large pack of pens (blue or black- no other colors and no gel pens)2 
glue sticks 
4 fat highlighters 
2 packages of 3 � x 5 inch index cards (200 cards total) 
1 box of crayons or colored pencils- no markers! 
2 large boxes of tissues 
Supply pouch to hold writing utensils 
Sketchbook for art class 
3 new pencils, a 2 pocket folder and $4 for music class 
6th grade band students need the Belwin Book 1 for your instrument 
6th grade orchestra students need Essential Elements 2000 Book 2 for 
your instrument and an extra set of strings
