Frequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of parents.
How do I know if the book my child is reading is just right for her/him?
Try the five finger test. With a chapter book, have your child flip to the middle of the book they have chosen and then read a page to you. If they come across a word that they don't know how to say or don't know the meaning for they should hold up one finger on one hand. If they come across five words within that first page that they don't know, the text is too difficult. If it is not a chapter book do the five finger test the same way, but use a couple of pages as opposed to one.Back to Top
