*Students are to copy homework daily. Planners need to be signed nightly to
keep the lines of communication open between home and school. (One planner
per student is provided by the district.)
Reading 15 minutes is part of our nightly homework assignment. Students are
to document the Title of the Book (Capitalizing important words &
underlining the title), Author's Name, and # of pages read in their planners
under the heading “15 minute Block.” Students need to choose a topic each
night to write about in the reading journal provided by the district.
A monthly calendar with topic ideas is placed in the front sleeve.
We will be doing "Flash Fives" (drilling flashcards with a partner or the
teacher)frequently in class. The students are to take a few minutes to
study their addition/subtraction facts on a nightly basis at the beginning of
this year. Due to the new K-12 math curriculum, there is very little time
for
review of basic facts.
Later in the year, there may be a review sheet that will ask the students to
practice their math facts.
For the beginning of the year, students will have two homework assignments
(math & language arts) each night in addition to reading each night. At
times, it is possible that there may be an addititional assignment. Content
area tests will be announced. Spelling tests on Friday. As the year
continues, there maybe at least one assignment from a textbook nightly.
This
is great preparation for fourth grade. Book reports are given monthly. The
students should be working on them a little at a time all month. Long term
planning is a skill that can be strenghtened as the children work on their
book reports.
***Homework is review of the concepts taught for the day. If you find that
your child is struggling, please jot me a note and I will happily sit with
him/her one-on-one to reinforce the concept.
