Announcements

This week 11/16 – 11/20

Welcome to the 2nd Quarter! Today is the official first day of quarter 2.

  • We have started Unit 3 in Spelling on Digraphs. This is our first week on this new topic. As always the spelling assignments will remain the same. There are also three additional pages that are coming home for Unit 3.

  • Please check out the updated Links page. I have added multiple links covering all content areas.
  • The first page is a blank writing page for you to have so you can make copies for your child to practice writing sentences, letters, etc…

  • The second page is the Trick Words for Unit 3. Please refer to the spelling list in your child’s journal for which trick words will be studied on the given week. However, you can cut these out and use them as flashcards for extra practice.

  • The final page is “Do the Digraph Detective” Activity. This is an activity that you can work on at home to assist your child with digraphs. This does not have to be returned.

  • Reminder: Students have ½ days on Thursday & Friday for Parent-Teacher Conferences. Dismissal will be at 11:30 on both days.

  • If you haven’t already done so, please be sure to send in your $7.00 for Craft Corner money as soon as possible so we can order crafts for the next party/holiday.

  • One of the S.L.T. (School Leadership Team) initiatives is going green. On Monday, your child was sent home with a notice with “Kids for Saving Earth – Call to Action”. America Recycles Day was Sunday, November 15th. Please read over and sign this form with your family members and send back with your student. Each student has a recycling can that they can place on the class recycle bin once this form is returned. We are going for 100% class participation. Once we have 100% we will put our class recycling can on the display in the lobby.

  • Please remember that all Spelling homework is due on the Friday of that week. If we have an off day, the assignments are still expected to be done by Friday.

  • Continue to work on Sight Words with your child. We are working hard in reading groups. I’ve included some more information on my webpage to assist your beginning reader. Please check out the “What can you do to help your child page”.

  • In Writer’s Workshop, we are working on Thanksgiving themed activities. We hope to have an Apple Lab project to share with you before we break for Thanksgiving.

  • In Math, we will continue to work on math on a Ten-Frame. We hope to finish this topic before the break! If you find your child struggling or they misplace their homework, I have added a new section on the webpage with access to the Practice Sheets (Homework) and a Reteaching Sheet (If extra help is needed). They are in PDF format. Please feel free to print out and use them as you see fit!

  • Book Orders are due online by November 30th. I’ve moved the due date up two days to ensure holiday delivery. If you need to order please follow the information below.

  • Spelling Fundations Update – Next week we will continue Unit 2, Week 3 working on CVC (Consonant, Vowel, Consonant) words. Coming home today are the Fundations Alphabet Squares. We colored these together. Use these to help your students to build CVC words. A letter has also been sent home explaining the benefits of working on blending three sound short vowel words, trick words, capitalization, punctuation, and word spacing for dictations. I’ve also included a “Change the Word Activity” that will help the students when building these words.

10/30/09.... Noteworthy News from Room 11...

We are now in full swing with our Spelling. Each week, the assignments will be the same. Again, if the spelling is messy I will have the children re-do the assignment in school or at home. All spelling work is due by Friday! Please keep an eye on their journals so when they fill most of the pages up, you can replace it with a new journal.

If your child hasn't told you... ask them about how much fun we have been having with the Apple Laptops! We just created our second project; The ABC's of Fall! We will be working on another project next week!

Thank you to all the parents for all your help with the Fall party! The children had a great time and it was a huge success! Thank you again!

We are in full swing with Guided Reading Groups! It is amazing how much the work you do at home really helps your child accelerate and get excited about reading. They truly love reading books! Please continue to keep working on sight words and letter sounds at home. Parents are teachers just as much as I am!

Please remember that this weekend is Daylight Saving Time... Clocks go back 1 hour on Saturday night!

Finally, please be sure to not send in any candy with your child from Halloween. All candy should be left at home as this is not a healthy snack for lunch or snack time.

Have a safe, spooky, and Happy Halloween!

We will continue to work on these concepts as the year goes on.

Don't forget to send the Spelling Journals back every day. This week, we will complete the ABC order portion together in class on Thursday. Again, if you have questions about Spelling, see the spelling page or let me know.

Please continue to practice sight words as these are very important for your child to succeed in reading.

Fall Party is Friday afternoon. If you haven't sent in your form, please do so as soon as possible and let Mrs. Terralavoro know by contacting her - tracyt318@me.com
