It is very important that your child continues to read and be read to over the long holiday break! I cannot stress enough the importance of this! We are starting long vowels soon and the students will really take off as readers after the New Year!

There is no Spelling Homework this week or next week. We will resume Spelling after the holiday, starting Unit 4. This week, the children will have a test on Unit 2 (CVC words), and a test on Unit 3 (digraphs).

Our Holiday Party is planned for Tuesday, December 22, with a snow date of Wednesday December 23. Information is being sent home today. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me.

Library books are due on Thursday this week, Day 4. Please be sure that the books are in your child's backpack! They are doing an outstanding job so far! We are tied for 1st place in book return!

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me.

Welcome back after the 1st snowfall of the season! I am sure the kids were extremely excited! As we gear up for the next two and a half weeks, we have much to do! We will continue our usual studies in Math, Reading, Writing & more! We are in the process of studying Holidays Around the World and I hope to get a few Apple Lab projects in as well!

Keep working on memorizing addition facts through 18. I plan to start timed tests (Mad Minutes) after the Holiday Recess.

A few children did not hand in their "Holiday Family Traditions". Please bring it in as soon as possible as the due date was today 12/7.

In Spelling, we are working on our final week on digraphs.

Library books are due tomorrow! Please be sure to bring them in!

Holiday Gift shop opens for the children on 12/7 and runs through 12/11. If you send money in with your child, please have it marked in an envelope so there is no confusion about lunch money.

Please remember to send a water bottle in with your child. A friendly reminder, snack time is something your child should be able to eat quickly and should be healthy.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me!

Welcome back from a "stuffed" Thanksgiving Break! I hope everyone enjoyed their time off! We have a few short weeks before the holidays approach!

Our Winter/Holiday Party is scheduled for Tuesday, December 22. I will be asking parents to coordinate what we want to do. If you are interested in helping and were unable to for our Fall party, please let me know.

The Holiday Family Traditions assignment is due on Monday, 12/7/09. Please answer the questions with your child at home. We will be studying Holidays around the world over the next few weeks.

We will have a Math quiz on Topic 6 this Friday, 12/4/09.

Spelling has resumed this week. Please look on the inside cover of your child's journal for the assignments. They have not changed. All spelling assignments are due by Friday.

We have Library on Day 5, however please note that library books are due on Day 4.  This ensures that we get 100% book return and all children can receive a new book, unless they choose to renew. Plus the children love to receive extra chances in Mrs. Coyne's prize box.

There will be no more book orders until the New Year!

Movie Night is Friday, 12/4. The movie "Up" will be shown. Show time is 7pm.

There is a PTA Ice Cream Social on Monday, 12/7.

Thank you to all for coming in for your child's conference! If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

There will be a Math test on Topic 5 on Tuesday. Review sheets covering the topics we learned are available in the Extra Practice Documents tab.

There will be no Spelling work the week of 11/23. We will resume spelling the week of 11/30.

A reminder - Full days of school on Monday & Tuesday.
No School Wednesday - Friday for Thanksgiving Break.
1/2 Day of School (11:30) dismissal on Monday, November 30th.

If you haven't already done so, please check out the updated Links page. I have added multiple links covering all content areas.

Please send in your $7.00 for Craft Corner money as soon as possible so we can order crafts for the next party/holiday.

Please be sure to return your recycling sheet signed for 100% class participation! We are just a few sheets shy of 100%.

Please send your child in with a water bottle for a drink. The water fountain in the classroom is no longer available for use til further notice as we try to be proactive in presenting the spread of germs. This is a District-wide initiative. We will take a water break at different points throughout the day.

Keep an eye on your child's spelling journal. If you see it getting low, please replace it. If you find journals with primary lines, please let me know where you found them, so I can let other parents know.

Finally, I've added another tab on the webpage. On the bottom, the tab is called "Kid Kreations". Each student illustrated and recorded something they are thankful for. I've put them together and it can be viewed as a class movie. If for some reason it does not work, you may have to download the program Quicktime.

As always, if you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Have a great weekend.

This week 11/16 – 11/20

Welcome to the 2nd Quarter! Today is the official first day of quarter 2.

  • We have started Unit 3 in Spelling on Digraphs. This is our first week on this new topic. As always the spelling assignments will remain the same. There are also three additional pages that are coming home for Unit 3.

  • Please check out the updated Links page. I have added multiple links covering all content areas.
  • The first page is a blank writing page for you to have so you can make copies for your child to practice writing sentences, letters, etc…

  • The second page is the Trick Words for Unit 3. Please refer to the spelling list in your child’s journal for which trick words will be studied on the given week. However, you can cut these out and use them as flashcards for extra practice.

  • The final page is “Do the Digraph Detective” Activity. This is an activity that you can work on at home to assist your child with digraphs. This does not have to be returned.

  • Reminder: Students have ½ days on Thursday & Friday for Parent-Teacher Conferences. Dismissal will be at 11:30 on both days.

  • If you haven’t already done so, please be sure to send in your $7.00 for Craft Corner money as soon as possible so we can order crafts for the next party/holiday.

  • One of the S.L.T. (School Leadership Team) initiatives is going green. On Monday, your child was sent home with a notice with “Kids for Saving Earth – Call to Action”. America Recycles Day was Sunday, November 15th. Please read over and sign this form with your family members and send back with your student. Each student has a recycling can that they can place on the class recycle bin once this form is returned. We are going for 100% class participation. Once we have 100% we will put our class recycling can on the display in the lobby.

  • Please remember that all Spelling homework is due on the Friday of that week. If we have an off day, the assignments are still expected to be done by Friday.

  • Continue to work on Sight Words with your child. We are working hard in reading groups. I’ve included some more information on my webpage to assist your beginning reader. Please check out the “What can you do to help your child page”.

  • In Writer’s Workshop, we are working on Thanksgiving themed activities. We hope to have an Apple Lab project to share with you before we break for Thanksgiving.

  • In Math, we will continue to work on math on a Ten-Frame. We hope to finish this topic before the break! If you find your child struggling or they misplace their homework, I have added a new section on the webpage with access to the Practice Sheets (Homework) and a Reteaching Sheet (If extra help is needed). They are in PDF format. Please feel free to print out and use them as you see fit!

  • Book Orders are due online by November 30th. I’ve moved the due date up two days to ensure holiday delivery. If you need to order please follow the information below.
