This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
All of my students were told to keep their science textbooks at home. When needed in school, there are textbooks available in my classroom. There is also at least one copy that can be borrowed for use in study hall or in the library.Back to Top
The vocab (vocabulary words) are words that are highlighted in each section of the reading. These words are usually assigned to be defined when a reading assignment is given. Check on page 5 of the textbook for the appropriate method of doing this work... Be sure to leave the holes intact and showing when folding the paper so the page can be kept in the science section of your math/science binder. There is an alphabetical list of vocabulary at the end of each chapter as well.Back to Top
After each section in the textbook there are Self Check Questions These are sometimes assigned for homework. The proper format is to answer these questions in full sentences on a piece of looseleaf with a proper eading (name, date, class and assignment.) The last question in the group requires some real thinking!!!Back to Top
When does a test have to be signed?
All tests and quizzes must be brought home and signed by a parent or legal guardian. This is just one way of communicating the progress and possible need for more study time or different study strategies. Students will sometimes have the opportunity to raise their test scores by doing 'Test Corrections.'Back to Top
To raise a test score, students in my regular science classes may do 'Test Corrections.' The student must find the correct answer for each question they got wrong. Then they must write a COMPLETE SENTENCE with the correct information. Each sentence must be written 5 times. This can be alot of work and writing, but can also result in valuble extra points. For each correctly written correction, students earn back 1/2 the original value. This can result in a student raising their test score up to 50% of the points that were lost. Example: A student gets 12 answers wrong on a 40 point test. The grade is 28/40 or 70%. The student lost 30% and can earn up to 15% back by properly doing test correections. The resulting grade can be as high as 85% in this example.Back to Top
Yes, I am here by 7:30 on most mornings and on many days for any kind of after school help until 3:45. Students must check with me each time they plan to stay to see if I will be available. Students may stay to get help either with their science work, or for any reason including getting their binder organized or doing homework. There is a 3:50 bus. Any parents who are picking up their student must be here by 3:45 or the student must take the bus. Parents should pick up students from the back parking lot and come in the lobby to get their child. Extra help can sometimes be arranged during the school day as well. I am available during period 4 in my room (149)and period 1 in rm 101 to help students who let me know they will be coming. I am also available on a limited basis at other times. Any student needing some time should feel free to ask.Back to Top
What after school activities are offered?
There are a large variety of after school activities offered throughout the school year. Thes include teams, clubs and intramural activities. The students are informed of these activities by the morning and afternoon announcements. Any student who cannot hear the announcements should bring this up with the teacher. Parents may call the school to inquire about specific activities. Parents can also subscribe to have the morning announcements e-mailed to them.Back to Top

Is the Science Fair mandatory?
Running an experiment at home and putting together a project for display at the district Science Fair is optional this year. However, students can earn valuable extra credit toward their 3rd quarter grade for the effort they put into participating, should they choose to do so. Forms and other information willbe available in January. Mrs. Hardt's Honons science class is required to do an experiment project for class during the same timeframe, so participation in the District Science Fair for extra credit just makes sense!Back to Top
