Projects

Here are the projects listed for the year by topic.  Please check the 
calendar page for the due dates for your class.



MATERIALS: paper or poster board (no smaller than a standard sheet of paper 
unless otherwise stated) {PROJECTS ON LOOSE LEAF WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED}
Crayons, markers or colored pencils
vocabulary lists

Personal Identification
- ID Card - Using the form provided in class as a rough draft, make an ID 
card for yourself in Italian.  Include all the information on the form as 
well as some likes and dislikes.  Your final draft must be done on 
construction paper or computer paper.  It must be no bigger that 8.5 x 11 and 
no smaller than a half sheet of paper.  It must include a picture and be done 
in Italian.

School
-For your next project, you will make a diagram of one of your classrooms.  
You will draw one of your classrooms and label twenty different items in your 
classroom.  Make sure you label which class room you are drawing.  Make it 
pretty as well (color it and make it neat and creative).  

-Your grade will be based on the following:
20 different labeled classroom items in Italian
Title of classroom (ex. La mia aula di matematica, storia, etc�)
Neatness
Creativity
Spelling.

-It can be no smaller than 8.5x11 and no bigger than 17x22 (2 pieces of 
paper).  
-It can be done on computer or drawn.  


Italian Heritage Month
In honor of Italian Heritage Month, which is the month of October, I want you 
each to research a famous Italian or Italian-American.  This small biography 
will include a brief summary of their life and their major accomplishments.  
The person can be living or dead and either Italian or Italian-American.

Criteria:
-The final draft must be at least 2 pages typed and double spaced.  It will 
be written in English so it must be spell and grammar checked.
-You must include your person�s name, date of birth, brief summary of their 
life, their major achievements or accomplishments and date of death if 
applicable.
-Also include a picture of your person to be placed on your final draft.
-A bibliography of all your research (whether it be books, magazines, 
newspapers or the Internet)

Due Dates:
Selection of the person you want to write about � October 24
Final Draft � October 31


Family
PROCEDURE: On your paper, draw a tree trunk by making an open, curved V Put 
your name on the trunk of the tree and then label it �io�.
�	Have branches sticking out from your level for your brothers and 
sisters and label each one either �fratello� or �sorella� and write their 
names. 
�	Have your tree grow one more level by extending your trunk up. Draw a 
curved V in the open space at the top of your trunk, leaving a bit of space 
between the two lines. Extend your first trunk lines up in a curve to make 2 
new branches. Each branch will have one label. One will be �madre� and the 
other �padre.� If your parents have nay brothers or sisters, have branches 
coming off of theirs like your own and label �zio� and �zia� where needed. 
If 
your aunts or uncles have children, make small lines coming from them 
for �cugini.� List all the names of each family member here as well. 
�	Have your tree grow a third level by drawing another curved V in the 
open space of each parent. Extend the previous branch to make new branches 
for your grandparents. Label each one with �nonno� or �nonna� and their 
names. 
�	Repeat this process for every previous generation. (Great 
grandparents = bisnonni). The minimum for this project is 3 generations (you, 
your parents, your grandparents) but you can go back farther. 
�	Include birth and death dates for all people.
�	After all your family members are on the tree, draw leaves on your 
tree and label the top of the tree �La famiglia di (your last name).� 
�	Extra credit will be added for pictures.



House and Home
	For this project, you will be making a floor plan of your house.
�	Using an overhead view, draw each floor of your house seperately as 
if you were looking down on it.
�	Label each room in Italian.
�	Include appropriate furniture for each room and label it seperately.
�	Pictures may be drawn, taken from magazines or the computer.
�	Please color and decorate appropriately.
OR

Make a real estate ad for your house in Italian.  Include a picture, 
location, list of rooms and amenities (pool, fireplace, garage, etc) and 
attractions and price.

OR

-Draw your dream house.
Label each room in Italian.
Include appropriate furniture for each room and label it seperately.
Pictures may be drawn, taken from magazines or the computer.
Please color and decorate appropriately.




The City/shopping
	For this project, you will draw a map of your hometown.
�	Draw your map from an overhead view.
�	Include all major buildings (schools, hopsitals, police, fire, etc.)
�	Label the streets in Italian.
�	Pictures may be drawn, taken from magazines or the computer.
�	Please color and decorate appropriately

or

Design your own mall
-Design your own mall - include at least 8-10 different stores and label all 
the items that they sell.  Give the store name and what they sell in Italian 
(ex. il negozio di calzature, scarpe).Color it and include all the items that 
you would normally find in a mall (food court, bathrooms, atms, 
escalators/elevators, etc).
-design it like a floor plan (looking down on it)
-decorate your mall to make people want to come to it.

 - Italy is know for certain items that represent Italian craftsmanship and 
traditions.  Find out what are the most popular items produced and exported 
from Italy and also what some popular souvenirs most tourists like to buy 
while shopping in Italy.  Write a brief description of each (50 word at 
least) and give an illustration or picture of each.

- Give a three page report (in English) about the European Union and the 
EURO, include pictures of the money.

- Investigate some of Italy's most famous fashion designers and show samples 
of their work in a collage.  Write a brief paragraph on how your designer 
became famous (in Italian - at least 50 words) on a seperate sheet of paper 
from your collage

Food
Design a menu for your own restaurant.
- Give your restaurant a name
- assign an appropriate cover charge
- list at least five items for each of the following in Italian (gli 
antipasti, primi piatti, secondi piatti, le bevande, i contorni, i dolci)
- list the prices in Euro.
Final draft must be neatly done with construction or computer paper.

Physical Environment
Lo zoo/La fattoria
 For this topic, you will be showcasing the animals.
Design either a zoo or farm using the appropriate animals and backgrounds for 
each.  Include AT LEAST 20 labeled animals in Italian.  Points will be taken 
off if there is not at least 20.
-Pictures can be drawn, cut out, or off the computer.
-Each picture must be labeled with the correct word in Italian for the 
animal.  Use your vocabulary sheets and dictionaries to make sure they are 
spelt correctly.
-Your zoo or farm must have a name.  It can be as simple as La fattoria di 
Bob (Bob's farm).
-Your project must be done neatly on computer or construction paper.

Travel Project
For your next project, you will make a travel brochure for one region in 
Italy.  Each student will have their own region (no repeats).  

Your brochure must include:
-Major cities of the region
-Major tourist attractions
-Pictures of the region
-Key facts about the region (population, capital, major geographic features, 
any thing interesting)

Health and Welfare

Earning a Living
-Investigate one famous business person from Italy, including a picture and 
why they are famous (3-5 pages in English - up to additional 20 points if 
done in Italian)

- Create your own help wanted ad.  You are the personel directors of a 
company and you are writing an ad for an open job.  Include the position to 
be applied for, desired qualities, education, language, experience, salary, 
and reference requirements, name of the company, address, and phone number.



Leisure



GRADING: Grades will be based on creativity, spelling, neatness and correct 
labels. No project will be accepted if done on loose leaf
