Message from the Principal

Dear Parents/Guardians: Spring is in the air! We are now in 4th quarter and looking forward to the end of the year and the 8th grade science assessment and social studies assessment. The 8th Grade Science Assessment is consists of two parts. On April 29 and 30th, students will take the Performance Assessment in class and on May 6th they will take the assessment. 7th graders will be on a 2 hour delay schedule on that day. The 8th grade social studies assessment will be on June 3rd and 4th. 7th graders will be on a 2 hour delay schedule. Wappingers Central School District
Look for the newest district information and news on the district web site. Board of Education Meeting for budget presentations will be held on April 28th at 8:15 PM at WJHS to adopt the 2008-2009 budget. April 29th at 5:00 PM at District Offices to adopt the BOCES budget.
 
Pilot Student Attendance Policy
The Board of Education has implemented a Pilot Student Attendance Policy for the 2007-2008 school year. It will be reviewed and evaluated during the school year for consideration as a permanent policy. We encourage you to download and get familiar with the policy. It will impact all high school students as well as 8th graders who take high school credit bearing courses (i.e. Honors Earth Science and Mathematics… Note: The 8th Grade Foreign Language Proficiency Examination is not covered by the policy). The policy in contained in the 2007-2008 Code of Conduct. Principals will be communicating with you and will be conducting orientation sessions in September.

May 20 Budget and Board Vote Update: For more information, visit the WCSD 2008-2009 Budget & Board Vote [B&BV] web site. The Wappingers PTA Council will sponsor a Meet the Candidates Night on Monday, May 5 at 7:30 PM in the Ketcham High School auditorium. There will be 8 candidates for 4 Board seats. The B&BV site lists their names. The Board will hold a mandated budget hearing at its Tuesday, May 6, 8:15 PM meeting. The district will hold two community budget forums this week: Wednesday, May 7, JJ HS auditorium, 7 PM Thursday, May 8, RCK HS auditorium, 7 PM Not sure where to vote on May 20? Parents would you like to be trained on thinking maps, please consider signing up for training provided by the district. Math Homework and Tutoring for Grades 4-8
A community volunteer group is offering free math tutoring and homework assistance to students in Grades 4 – 8. The sessions will be from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesdays at Van Wyck JHS. Please consult the calendar of dates at the end of this letter for the session meeting dates. All WCSD students in grades 4 – 8 are welcome to attend any of the sessions listed. No sign-up is necessary.
 
MRSA Letter
MRSA LETTER - The district has sent out a letter describing the steps it has taken and that the NYS Department of Health recommends we all take regarding the Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA).
