- Question #8 (blank)
How much homework will be offered each week?
It varies for each grade. In the 5th and 6th grade, Mrs. Coletti
gives
homework on Monday through Thursday with occasional weekend
homework. In
the 7th and 8th grade, homework is given on Monday through Friday
for both
English and Spanish classes since we expect more from the upper
grades.
What is your grading system?
In all subject areas--
15 percent for class participation and homework assignments.
35 percent for quizzes.
50 percent for tests, essays, and projects.
How can I reach you?
The best way to contact me is through my email address listed on
the side tool bar of this website. I check my email daily and I
will get back to you as quicky as possible. However, you can
also leave a message at the school by calling (631)-589-2180.
How will the changing of classes work for 5th graders?
In 5th grade, they have three different teachers. Therefore,
they will be
traveling to three different classrooms; one being their homeroom
teacher,
Mrs. Feldman. It will take some time to get used to the change.
To help
ease this process, students need to be well-organized. With the
help of
Mrs. Feldman, they will gather their books and other materials
for their
classes in order to be prepared.
When is extra help offered for all classes?
I will be staying after school every Thursday of each week to
help anyone who is falling behind or needs to better understand
what we have learned. Extra help sessions are offered for the
benefit of the students. Therefore, please use your time wisely
during the session and do not disrupt others.
How often should we study?
Studying is very important for all classes and it should be done
on a regular basis. Tests and quizzes are posted at least five
days prior to the date they will be given, allowing time for you
to study for each test or quiz. I would suggest studying at least
two days prior to the test and pay close attention to any reviews
given during class.
How can I do well this year?**
Organization is key!! You need to be well-organized throughout
the school year. WSCS provides a planner for you to record your
homework assignments and other projects. Although your homework
will be posted on this web site, the planner is a good tool for
you to have and to utilize in case a computer is not available
for you. Each teacher will give instructions on how they want you
to be organized. Follow their rules on organization and you will
be able to keep track of how well you are doing throughout the
school year.
You can also do well by improving your average in completing
extra-credit assignments. They are only offered if you have a
test or quiz grade of an 80 or below. Extra-credit should not be
something you should rely on. Remember that extra-credit means
extra work and most of my extra-credit assignments are long and
tedious. However, it is an option you can choose to use to
improve your average.
