What if there is a change in my child's dismissal routine?

If at any time there is a change in your child's regular dismissal
routine, please write a note describing the change.

Hopefully, this will prevent any confusion.

Do I need to write a note when my child is absent?

Yes. Please send an absence note when your child returns to
school after every absence. The note should include the date of
absence as well as the reason.

What should I do if my child cannot complete his/her homework for the evening?

If your child can't complete his/her homework due to feeling ill
or tired, simply write me a note. He/she can make it up whenever
possible and bring it to school when completed. If your child has
forgotten necessary books or mail, any efforts to complete the
assignments would be appreciated (calling a friend, writing
answers on looseleaf, for example.) As in the previous case,
please write me a note explaining the situation.

What happens if my child forgets their homework at home?

Students who forget their homework will be marked as having a
missing assignment. Students should complete the missing
assignment and return it the next day. Assignments not returned
in a timely fashion will result in a missing homework grade.
Patterns of missing homework assignments will result in a reduced
homework grade.

Will my child need a snack every day?

Yes. Please send a healthy, filling snack, even on half days of
school. We will have snacktime in the morning, although
sometimes it might be a "working snack" where we eat as we
complete our work.

Do I need to return my child's tests?

Yes! All tests are sent home for a signature. This process
is key in keeping you informed of your child's grades and
progress within class.
Please sign and review each test with your child and return to
school the next day. I appreciate your support in this matter!

Can my child bring in birthday treats to celebrate his/her birthday?

Our district has adopted a Wellness Policy where food is no
longer used for celebrations of any kind. You can, however, send
in something special for your child's day such as: a birthday
balloon to tie to the back of your child's chair; his/her
favorite storybook to be read to the class by the birthday child,
you, or myself; and party bags for the class, which should
contain only non-edible items. Please do not feel obligated to
do all of the above, they are just suggestions. For all
birthdays, we make it special in class by singing to the birthday
child and if time allows, we play a game of their choice.
