Special Unit of Study

Our Second Grade Life Cycles

We have been very busy in second grade
studying the life cycles of both butterflies and
chickens.

Our Incubator

The first step is to make sure our incubator is
all set up with everything the eggs will need to
begin their development inside their temporary
home for the next 21 days.

From Egg to Chick

We are very lucky to be able to see inside a real
egg! Mrs. Quick has these great photos for us to
study as we learn about each stage of
development.

The "Big Break"

This is a photo of the shells after our chicks
worked tirelessly to get out and begin their new
life.

Whoo....

"Boy, that was a lot of work! We are so tired. We
think we'll rest for a while"!

Our Embryology Corner

Here is a view of our classroom life cycle center.
We have so many neat things in this corner, and
some of our students even made "birthday
cards" to welcome the newest members of our
class!

Our New Home

"After spending some time in the incubator, we
are all dried and fluffed and ready to move to
our new home. This new home is called our
brooder. It is a nice, warm, cozy place for us to
eat, drink, sleep, and play with our brothers and
sisters".

Here We Are!

Mrs. Minehardt-Quick and our aide
Mrs. Chrysler are SO proud of the job we
have done in preparing for our new chicks.
Our second grade family has gotten even
bigger!!!
