About The School Social Worker

NAME: Mrs. Olivieri, LMSW

SCHOOLS: Crompond, Mohansic, Mildred E. Strang Middle School

Who is Your School Social Worker?

Hello! My name is Mrs. Olivieri and I have been working in the Yorktown
Central School District since September, 2004. I have a Master of Social
Work Degree and am licensed by the state of New York to practice as a
professional in a variety of settings besides schools. I am also certified
by the New York State Education Department. I have over 16 years of
experience working in schools, the New York City Child Welfare System and a
children's hospital.

The role of the school social worker is to be a supportive resource for
our students, their families and our entire school community. All of our
district social workers assist children whose academic and/or
social/emotional functioning may be affected by various home or school
issues. Some examples of home issues may include parental separation or
divorce, a financial crisis, a serious illness or death of a loved one.
School issues may include difficulties making/keeping friends, being a
target of bullying, exclusion from peer activities... The district social
workers are available to work with students in both the special and regular
education settings. We may provide individual or group counseling services
in school depending on the needs of the students and the assessment of the
school social worker. We also help coordinate appropriate community services
for families. The district social workers are an integral part of the
multidisciplinary team at school, working closely with our building
administrators, teachers, school nurses, guidance counselors and
school psychologists to ensure success and safety for all of our students. I
welcome families to contact me with any concerns they may have about their
children.
