America was born out of innate desire for perpetual self-improvement and
earned in the blood of our wounded and fallen veterans from the Revolutionary
era up to and including the War on Drugs and the War on Terrorism. Our
history has been shaped by individuals who understood the crucial nature of
task completion and without recourse have pursued a variety of means to reach
such ends. Throughout these times American progress was slowed by the weak
minded who contributed more to our problems rather than to our solutions.
From the then until now and especially in the post-9/11 world; individual
failure to capitalize off of the opportunity to be a more ambitious, more
productive, more law-abiding and better educated American is frowned upon and
ultimately counter productive to our culture.
The individual lack of dedication for self improvement only diminishes
our character as a people and the ultimate credibility of our nation. As an
educator I’ve dedicated myself to waging war on ignorance and equipping
students with a working knowledge of the Social Sciences so that they may one
day go on to propose solutions in our nations politically, socially or
economically troubled times. It is imperative that we as Americans ask
ourselves whether our actions or lack thereof are apart of the problems or
solutions for America? Today's students must ask themselves when and where
they will find their fit in this great nation? Their perspective fit will
either be the one they chose; foreseen through vision and earned through hard
work and persistence or, unfortunately lost in what Theodore Roosevelt
referred to as the "grey twilight". This is the figurative place that
represents the culminated end of wasted years filled with a lack of desire to
succeed, poor effort, missed opportunities and a feeling of hopelessness.
AVOID THIS or you will ultimately become misplaced and unneeded in America;
left to reflect on how your own individual lack of vision, hard work and
persistence took you there.
Today's politically, socially and economically challenging times do not make
life easier or more comfortable for anyone, therefore it is crucial that
today's high school students work smarter, work harder and come to the
realization that the American workforce, public and private alike, is short
on patients for its thinkers and workers who are filled with excuses rather
than solutions. America wants strong minds to sustain our economic
infrastructure and to combat our greatest enemies; Drugs, Terrorism and
Disease. Ingenuity and hard work have always flowed through the American
bloodstream; pumping solutions to the heart of our domestic agenda while
concurrently responding to the global mission to manifest a destiny of freedom
for the oppressed. Since our inception, this is what we've done, what we are doing
and ultimately who we are. Failure to understand what America and the world for
that matter, expects from its workers will be the first and most crucial mistake anyone
can make in preparing to survive in our Free Enterprise system. Free Enterprise is one
of the greatest concepts introduced to man but be advised; just as free as you are to
succeed you are also just as free to fail. Your fit in this world will largely be judged by
your efforts or lack thereof.
The formula for success has never changed, nor will it ever.
Life is what you do and build for yourself, not what someone does or does not
do for you. Respect your self, respect others, get up, dress up, show up
early, be prepared, work smarter, work harder, capitalize off all
opportunities, learn from your mistakes and remind yourself that anything
less than your personal best is unacceptable. If you fail, assume
responsibility for your action then dust off your regrets and go do it again.
Be patient, persistent, search for opportunities, work through your pain, get
the job done and thank those along the way who helped you reach your
potential. A positive attitude can take you almost anywhere, now go get it
done.
