What is the Yorktown Alternative High School?

 The Yorktown Alternative High School is part of the Yorktown Central School 
District.  YAHS is a highly supervised program that offers students smaller 
class sizes, a nurturing school environment, with a strong emphasis on 
student success.  The school enrolls students in grades nine through twelve.

 Currently all the students attending AHS are from the Yorktown Central 
 School District.

What is the school day like at YAHS?

 The Yorktown Alternative HS follows a nine period day: Six academic    
periods, one lunch period, one Physical Education period, and a ninth period 
that is used for students who need to make-up work, extra help, and 
detention.

What are the course requirements for students?

 Students are required to follow New York State Guidelines for graduation.  
 Students must complete 22 academic credits and pass all New York State 
 REGENTS or RCT examinations to fulfill the graduation requirements.

To what extent are the YAHS students involved in extracurricular activities?

 Students are encouraged to participate in sports teams, clubs, and other 
 extracurricular activities at Yorktown HS.

Do students return to Yorktown HS?

All students enrolled at AHS are given the opportunity to return to Yorktown 
HS either on a full or part-time schedule.

Do the students at YAHS have their own graduation ceremony?

 The students at YAHS participate in graduation ceremony with the Yorktown
 HS senoir class.

Is there specific criteria that is used for student enrollment?

�	Students whose school performance is lower than expected
�	Students who show avoidance behaviors such as cutting class or     
        truancy
�	Students who may benefit from a less stressful school experience
�	Students who need a small class/school environment in order to
