On October 22nd, 2008, the fourth and fifth graders were invited to join in a discussion of Alice in Wonderland with select members of the Lewis Carroll Society of North America, a nonprofit organization dedicated to furthering awareness of Lewis Carroll's contributions to society and culture. Before each semi-annual conference, the society members choose a school to visit and share their enthusiasm for the Alice books. Among the discussion topics were the life and times of Lewis Carroll, readings from Alice in Wonderland, the real Alice and how she was connected to Lewis Carroll as well as how he was inspired to write the Alice books and how the Alice books inspired other writers like J.K.Rowling. Each child who participated was given a copy of Alice in Wonderland as a keepsake. For more information on the Lewis Carroll Society go to www.lewiscarroll.org. |
