OCTOBER 2009

We will be learning the multiplication tables throughtout the school year, so please practice the tables starting with the easiest and moving forward. The children finished Chapter 1 and we have already started Chapter 2. We cover the concepts based on the New York State Curriculum so we may not cover every concept in every chapter, but by June, all concepts will be covered. If we have taught a concept (such as measurement) the children are responsible for knowing that concept throughtout the year. {So they may have a question or two on the Chapter 2 test that includes concepts from Chapter 1. }

SEPTEMBER 2009

We will be starting out the school year with measurement for both Math and Science. In Math, this unit will be reviewed again throughout the school year and prior to the NYS Math test toward the end of the year. It will also be ongoing throughout our Science 21 lessons especially in UNIT   1.

Multiplication facts will be an integral part of Math. Please start NOW by helping your child memorize the tables. Start with the easy fun tables - 2, 5, 10... then move on to 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9.......... There are many fantastic websites that teach as well as reinforce these skills and more. I will have a list on this Math site soon.
