Social Studies Infomation

NOVEMBER   2009

Please start to bring in the items listed below AFTER the Thanksgiving break. We will keep them in the classroom so we have them ready for the Native American Craft Fair.

OCTOBER 2009

This month we plan on starting the Native American Unit. You will receive information on this next unit shortly. Half of our class did not get to go on the Clearwater. We are exploring another date for those children later on in the school year, possibly May or June. Please start to collect a few items from nature for our Native American Craft Fair...... Date TBA..... Items include:

  • plants that have "scents" such as pine cones
  • 5 sticks that measure about 15 inches in length and 2 -3 cm in diameter(standard and metric)
  • 2 pieces of stick that measure about 3 inches in length and 2-3 cm in diameter
  • vines (be careful of poison ivy) (Make it into a dreamcatcher shape about 4 inches in diameter) literature to follow.........
  • berries that we can u se to make INK to paint on "bear skinThis list will probably be updated with more items...... but you can start collecting now.

SEPTEMBER 2009

The collaborative team of Mrs. Sabella, Mr. Pastore and I will be working on Social Studies together. Your child will experience the teaching of all of us at some time during the school year. In September we plan on covering the resources, landforms, waterforms and more for New York State.
