Homework is given daily Monday through Thursday. No homework on Friday.
In addition to daily homework, students are expected to read every night for
a minimum of 10 to 15 minutes (including weekends). This can be done in a
variety of ways. You can:
1) Have your child practice reading aloud to you.
2) Read to your child. It is great modeling of what a good
reader sounds like.
3) Take turns reading every other page with your child.
If your child is a beginner reader, read to your child and pause
to let him/her read the words that he/she knows.
Ask your child a variety of questions about the story you read. Talk about
the characters, setting, the problem and solution. This aids in reading
comprehension.
Children will bring home their guided reading book in a zip-lock book bags
(this book is is different from the school library books).
Reading together with your child is one of the greatest gifts you can give
to them. They will learn to appreciate the power of literature and increase
their vocabulary by leaps and bounds.
