(E-Mail Protocol)
Know your teacher's e-mail policy. Each teacher will explain, at Parent Orientation, communication protocols specific to their class. E-Mail is best used for a quick question or to convey general information, not a complicated issue. If the content of your e-mail is confidential, health-related or time- sensitive, use an alternate means of communication. Be respectful.
Communication Protocol
It is reasonable to expect that parents will from time to time have inquires about school matters. Inquiries should be taken initially to those persons who are closest to the subject. This normally means discussing the matter with the appropriate teacher.
After talking with the teacher, a parent may wish to discuss the concern with the psychologist or a member of the Instructional Support Team. If the matter is not resolved, the parent may then contact the principal.
If the matter is still not resolved, you may wish to carry the concern to a central office administrator. This administrator will ask for a summary of previous discussions held with the school personnel in relation to the concern. The matter will be investigated and findings and conclusions will be reported to the individual concerned.
Parent Orientation, Parent/Teacher Conferences, Open House
Parent Orientation and Open House help parents gain an understanding of programming at French Hill. The Parent Orientation is an evening event, takes place in September and is an opportunity for parents to learn about key components of the instructional program. French Hill’s Open House takes place when students are in class, occurs in November and is an opportunity for parents to visit their child’s classroom to see firsthand how the instructional program is implemented.
The Parent/Teacher conference is an invaluable opportunity for parents to meet with their child’s teacher in order to review their child’s progress. Kindergarten and Grade 1 parents meet with their child’s teacher for parent/conferences three times per year. Grade 2 parent/teacher conferences occur in the fall and for some Grade 2 parents later in the year.
Specific dates for the Parent Orientation, Parent/Teacher Conferences and Open House can be found in the School Calendar.
Parent/Staff Organizations and Committees
French Hill PTA
French Hill’s PTA helps the school in its aim to offer rich, meaningful and appropriate programming. Examples include the Wee Deliver program, Publishing Center, assemblies, visiting artists, book fairs, after-school programs, to name a few. The PTA’s support of the French Hill Outdoor Classroom is yet another example.
The French Hill PTA plays a significant role in the effective communication between the school and home. Formally, at various PTA meetings, informative and enjoyable presentations are made. At each PTA meeting, updates of happenings, issues and events are given by the principal and others.
