Welcome to the Reading Lab website! My name is Linda Arko and I have been
teaching the multi-sensory reading class at the middle school since 2000. I
have three children, two who have graduated from the Yorktown School
District, and one who is currently in the High School. I am proud to be a
part of this wonderful school district as a parent as well as a staff
member. I am very excited about the class I teach, and enjoy each and every
student that comes through my door! This reading class is designed
specifically for students who have not yet internalized sounds and word
structure, and who will benefit from interactive instruction. The
curriculum emphasizes decoding and encoding skills while incorporating level-
appropriate literature.
The goal of this program is to improve the student's ability to decode
accurately, decode unfamiliar words, increase reading fluency, improve
spelling, and to improve comprehension.
