Hi! I am Ms. Gibney! This is going to be an exciting year! I am looking
forward to all the great experiences we are going to share!
I have been teaching at Strang for 14 years. In 1996, I came to Strang from
a junior high school in NYC.
I live in Connecticut with my husband, Jonathan, and my two sons, Blake (16
years old - who was named after the poet William Blake) and Jesse (12 years
old - who was named for a character in children's literature). We all live
with our huge but gentle yellow lab, Jack. And I can't forget to introduce
our two rabbits. Their names are Troubles and Stormy, but I can never
remember which is which so I call them "The Black Nosed Bunny" and "The White
Nosed Bunny." I guess you can figure out why.
In addition to teaching English, I am also a certified Wildlife Educator. I
trained with the Wildlife Conservation Society and with the Yellowstone
Institute. I served as the Director of Education for the Wolf Conservation
Center for over a year.
My family and I spend much of our free time hiking, camping, gardening, and
traveling. Our biggest trip was in the summer of 2006 when we went to Africa
for 3 weeks. Last summer we went to England and France. This summer we spent
two weeks in California.
We also do a lot of community service and volunteer work. For example,we have
served many times as a "foster family" for abandoned Labrador retrievers who
need rehabilitating in order to be adopted, I serve food regularly at the
community soup kitchen in New Haven, and each summer we host a Fresh Air
Fund child. If you are not familiar with the Fresh Air Fund, you might want
to check out their website. It is a very interesting organization.
I am looking forward to getting know each of you and your families as well.
Remember to use my website often since it will have many helpful links and
downloads for you. And feel free to e-mail me. I check my e-mail everyday.
