What is a School Psychologist: A school psychologist is a professional who has training both in education and psychology. They aim to help students, parents and teachers with problems that arise in school related to students' educational needs, emotional issues and classroom based problems. The goal of the school psychologist is to make sure each child is learning in a safe, healthy and supportive environment in order to reach their full potential. School Psychologists at MESMS: At MESMS we are fortunate to have a full time school psychologist as well as a part time school psychologist. Both Mrs. Wallace and Ms. Schnabel work with students to conduct assessments, provide counseling and address parent and teacher concerns. In addition to these duties, the school psychologists are the chairperson for the subcommittee on special education at MESMS. In this role, they help assist parents, teachers, and students in planning an appropriate and beneficial special education program for designated students. The school psychologists at MESMS also serve on several building-wide committees, including chairing the Student Support Team committee as well as being a member of the Building Emergency Response Team and the Building Team. Mrs. Wallace and Ms. Schnabel are integral members of the guidance department and help to resolve issues related to all students.
