Class Guidelines

Classroom Rules:

· Be in the classroom, seated, when the bell rings.

· Be prepared for class – have your notebook, pencils, and assignment pad.

· Raise your hand and wait to be recognized. Please don’t call out!

· Ask questions if you do not understand something!

· Keep hands, feet, objects, and put-downs to yourself.

· Respect others in the classroom.

· Follow directions.

· NO GUM CHEWING!

· If you are late, you will need a pass. .

Absences:

· If you have been out of school or had to miss a math class for some very good reason, it is your responsibility to ask for AND make up any missed work (notes, handouts, assignments, and tests / quizzes.

 

Homework:

· Homework is assigned almost every night and is posted on my website.  Teacher websites are available off of the Middle School home page off of the district website (http://www.yorktown.org). Click on the Middle School at the top of the page and you will be taken to the Middle School home page.  Click on "Teacher Websites", then on Morales, Donna. There you will find current assignments as well as old assignments. 

· Homework must be done in PENCIL and all necessary work neatly shown.  It is checked and reviewed the day after it is assigned. You are expected to have your homework with you when you enter the classroom. 

· Everyone begins each marking period with a homework grade of 97. For each miissing assignment, five points will be deducted. For each incomplete assignment, two points will be deducted.  Homework CANNOT be submitted for credit once it is reviewed in class.  Homework counts as a test grade.

Notebook:

· Each student will need a spiral notebook. three-ring binder and loose leaf paper. You are expected to bring your books with you EVERY DAY.

·   All handouts and notes will be assigned a page number and, on occasion, notebooks will be checked.  The purpose of a notebook check is to ensure that students have all the necessary materials in an organized and neat notebook. Notebook checks will be announced and students will have at least two days to ensure their notebooks are in order.

· While tests and quizzes are not given specific page numbers, they should not be thrown away! Students can use these to study from for their midterm exam, state assessment test, and final exam.

 

Grading:

· Tests will be announced at least three days before given. Students will receive review sheets to help them prepare for all tests and quizzes.  Tests count twice.

· Quizzes, announced and surprise, count once

· Parents/guardians will be asked to sign all tests and quizzes once thay are graded and returned to the student.  If necessary, calls will be placed to parents/guardians informing them of the grade. 

· Students will be given a grade each marking period based on class participation and preparedness.  Everyone begins each marking period with a participation grade of 97.  Each time a student asks to go to their locker (forgetting to bring their homework to class), two points will be deducted from this grade.  Failure to have a test/quiz signed within two days of its return to the student counts as a missed homework (five point deduction).  This grade counts as a test grade (twice).

· Checked homework is computed and counted as a test grade (twice).

· Notebook checks count as a quiz grade (once).

 

Discipline Procedure:

· Step 1: Verbal warning given.

· Step 2: Hold after class.

· Step 3: Fifteen minute lunch detention and a phone call home.

· Step 4: Send to the Assistant Principal’s office.

· In the case of a severe disruption, the student will be sent directly to the Assistant Principal’s office.

 

Miscellaneous:

· Extra help is available after school and, at times, during lunch. An extra help session is always held the day before a test or a quiz.

· Parents/Guardians should feel free to contact Mrs. Morales at any time.
