Team 7H 1st Period Skills Class
Contact Instructor: Mrs. Veronica Hildinger
Certified Teacher Assistant: Mrs. Linda Weber
Mrs. Faith Goldstein
Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year! Most of you are probably familiar with
a Skills period in the past, but I would like to give you a general picture
of our goals for the coming year. I am very excited to begin each school
year, and I am particularly happy to start each day with Skills. It gives
all of us a chance to ease into the school day, review previous work, preview
new assignments, and to try new things from which we can all learn.
First off, let me stress that your Skills period is a very important
class! It will be a place to receive extra time and help with all
assignments, quizzes, and tests. No matter what the class, Skills will be
the place to get the assistance needed. It is my pleasure to have Mrs.
Weber as my right hand gal for another year to assist with the students. This
year we are proud to have Mrs. Goldstein in our classes as well. With all of
us here, there are many hands to help, and also many eyes to watch and be
sure that students are on task, completing their homework, and treating each
other (and us!)respectfully.
Students wil be expected to come prepared with a pen or pencil and any of
the materials that will be posted on the blackboard. They should be sure to
check the board before proceeding to lockers since this will tell them what
specific things they'll need from day to day. The assignment pad and writing
tools are always expected at the very least. They will be reminded to bring
in a small stash of supplies to avoid trips to the locker during class time.
Most days, we will work a bit as a whole group on things like spelling,
writing, and general skills we use in every class, but some days they may
each be working on something that might be more difficult for them as
individuals. It is always our goal for homework to be completed at home,
but we can certainly review various assignments as needed. In any case, Mrs.
Weber, Mrs. Goldstein and I are always here to help.
Finally, I believe it is important to have regular contact with
families to inform them of their student's progress and discuss any
important issues. Thank you for returning contact information and know that
I will try to reach all of you personally in the coming weeks.
I look forward to a great year of learning and getting to know you all!

Dear Parents: It has been my experience that e-mail is the best way to stay
in touch. Phone calls and messages can be missed, and privacy and
convenience are sometimes compromised during the school day. However, I am
happy to phone you if that is your preference. I can always be reached at
the school number (243-8100; a message will be left in my mailbox) or by the
school e-mail: vhildinger@yorktown.org. I try to return all phone calls
during the school day whenever possible, but if it is imperative that I
reach you by a certain time, please indicate that on my e-mail or phone
message.
I look forward to speaking to all of you very soon and meeting you all
at Back to School Night.
Yours truly,
Veronica M. Hildinger
