Lauren Art can serve so many different purposes, it is fascinating! In my project, I am focusing on the architecture of bridges, specifically the Mid Hudson Bridge. You see, it isn’t just the beauty of the bridge that makes it so fascinating; it is both the beauty and the purpose that make it such an amazing work of art. The Mid Hudson Bridge goes over the Hudson River and connects the two communities, Poughkeepsie and Highland. The Mid Hudson Bridge isn’t really its full name. Its full name is The Franklin D. Roosevelt Mid Hudson Bridge. It is called this because Franklin D. Roosevelt was governor of New York at the time it was opened. It is also located around his birthplace, Hyde Park. The bridge is 3,000 feet long and 135 feet above the Hudson River.
The beauty of the Mid Hudson Bridge is amazing! The bridge is beautiful both during the day and at night. In the day, the bridge and the sun work as a team to cast incredible shadows onto the water below. At night, between the car headlights and the lights on the bridge, the bridge becomes a sparkling parade of light! The lights cast colors of the rainbow onto shimmering waters of the Hudson River. Also, the beautiful sunset shines through the bridge and lights up the bridge in a natural way!
The purpose of the bridge is to carry cars over the Hudson River and into another community. It amazes me how such a heavy bridge can hold so many cars and still be able to stand over the Hudson. It is amazing how the bridge can stand through hot and freezing temperatures and still be strong and safe enough to carry people where they need to go. For that, we can thank the artists and scientists who designed the bridge. I know that I would not care about its beauty if I was going across and something happened and I fell right through the bridge. However the bridge is very sturdy and safe I’m sure in my lifetime I would never fall through! Even though there are many purposes in art, this is the one that sparks my interest.

Charlotte Does Art Serve a Purpose? Art serves many purposes. Art can teach us all about different places or times in history. It can also make us feel certain emotions. Another thing it can do is let us put ourselves in other people's positions. Art is able to do many things. Art gives us a look at people's private moments in life. For example, today my family and I stopped to eat out for lunch and if someone were just sitting there and painting that moment that would be an example of that topic. Another example of when art shows us people's personal moments is in the painting "The Milkmaid", by Jan Vermeer. The painting shows a woman going about her regular duties but when you look at the expression on her face, you wonder what could she be thinking? Is she sad, happy or tired? The expression on her face makes you think, if this is her at work, what is her daily life like? Another painting of a private moment is "Snap the Whip" by Winslow Homer. In the painting, the artist allows us to feel the childrens joy and laughter through his creativity. The children are becoming a work of art, without even noticing. Through their paintings the artists let us put ourselves in the positions of their characters and make us feel the emotions of the private moments shown in their works of art. That's one purpose I think art serves.

Ryan Art serves many purposes. One purpose is to make our world more beautiful through murals, architecture, and sculpture.
Just driving through Poughkeepsie you can see the value of art. Along Main Street you can see a variety of murals painted on buildings. These murals certainly make our town more beautiful as they illustrate the culture of where we live. Some show teens playing sports while others show bright colors of animals and children playing.
Architecture is the way a building is designed. Architecture adds beauty to our world. Poughkeepsie is rich with old buildings. Vassar College, the Poughkeepsie Post Office, The Poughkeepsie Journal Building, and The Adriance Library are a few magnificent buildings. They bring beauty to our town. There are many new buildings in our area too. The new plaza at the end of Spackenkill Road adds color to a busy intersection. The train station’s recent renovations blend color with an old fashion flare. Poughkeepsie is making a effort to make downtown more beautiful again. It’s great to see the arts having an influence in this way.
A great spot to sit and relax in Poughkeepsie is The Soldier’s Fountain. Not only is it beautiful to watch the water fountain spray water through the air, but if you take a closer look you can see the carved child-like figures decorating it. There are other examples of sculpture in our area. Sculpture like that of the abstract sculpture garden or the sculpture at Waryas Park are examples of art making our world more beautiful. In front of the Louvre is a beautiful glass pyramid sculpture. The pyramid is a cool design.
My project, like the pyramid outside the Louvre makes the world more beautiful. I choose to put pictures of the different seasons on the pyramid because I think seasons are God’s artwork. Hopefully it will add beauty to the conference room at Hagan.

Samantha Yes. I do think art serves a purpose. In art you can convey emotions such as happiness, sadness and anger. Certain colors give you different feelings. For happiness you can use pinks, purples, light blue, light green and other bright colors. Reds, browns and black usually mean anger. For sadness you would probably use blues and gray. My picture shows a variety of emotions. The thunder bolts mean anger and the circles are for happiness. It’s different than using words to express feelings because you get a visual picture. The artist gets to create something that might be hard to explain in words. The audience gets to feel what the artist felt when he made the picture. |

Kourtney Does art serve a purpose? Yes art serves a purpose in many ways like when you are sad you could draw your favorite place to go. Just like mine. Mine is a ocean but a perticular one its North Carolina. When I look at it ,it remindes me of the of the good times we had in North Carolina. So yes I do think art serves a purpose.

Robert In my opinion, art does serve a purpose. I think art serves a purpose because designers have to use art in their creations. Designers give people a different perspective of things. A good example is the guy who made the bicycle powered light. He gave everyone a good way to be green. If everyone has lights like that, then we won’t be polluting as much and the Earth will be a human inhabited planet for years to come.

Quinn The first reason that art serves a purpose is because it shows feelings. By doing drawings or artwork you can express many different emotions. Art is a language that everyone can use to express themselves. Art also expresses things that you want to say but cannot; so, you draw it instead.

Vinny Does Art serve a purpose? Yes I feel Art serves a purpose. It allows us to express our feeling s by using any materials and provides creative thinking through the mind. I used my creative thinking to form a clay skull that represents going through your imagination symbolically to form art. P.S. Look inside the skull.
