Dear Parents/Guardians,
Each Monday, I will be sending home our “Weekly Snapshot” which highlights the various
skills that we will be working on in class, as well as any important information that I need to
let you know about. As you can see, the spelling words for the week are listed to the left, and
homework assignments for the week are listed on the back of this sheet.
Today your child will be bringing home their reading log in which they should record
their 15 minutes of reading each day. The reading log stays home during the week and should be
returned on Friday. As stated in Friday’s letter, you may find that you will have to read to
your child at the beginning of the year and as the year progresses, your child should begin to
read more independently. You will also notice that your child has brought home 5 sight words on
index cards today (and will each Monday). These cards should be kept at home. They are intended
to be used as flash cards. The children should practice their sight words on a regular basis.
Tonight’s homework is to practice this week’s spelling words. The students recorded the
spelling words in their journals today in class, and for homework they are to practice writing
the words 2 times each.
I am attaching information about accessing the Harcourt (math) website and the Scott
Foresman (reading) website . These sites are great references about our math and reading series
and they also provide additional practice/games for skills that we are learning in class.
Please also remember that a copy of the weekly newsletter and other pertinent information,
including spelling words and homework assignments can be found on our class
