About The Teacher

This is my sixth year teaching at Hagan Elementary School. I feel truly
blessed to be working with a wonderful group of people here at Hagan.
Spackenkill is an excellent school district! I have a Bachelor of Science
Degree in Business Economics and Organizational Communication from the State
University at Oneonta. I began my business career in retail management, and
after a few years moved on to working as a Banquet Director/Restaurant
Manager for The Whitehart Inn in Salisbury Connecticut. After working for
The Whitehart for several years, I returned to school and earned my teaching
certification in Elementary Education from Marist College. I then continued
on to complete my Master's Degree in Educational Psychology at Marist
College as well.

I currently live in Millbrook, NY (which is also where I grew up) with my
husband, two children, and my two cats. In my free time, I love to do a
variety of outdoor activities with my family including camping, hiking,
biking, and gardening. My favorite thing to do at night to 'wind down'
after a long day is to read a good book (or watch the Yankees play when it's
baseball season!) I also enjoy knitting and scrapbooking as well.

Mission For The Class

My mission for our classroom is to provide a safe, nurturing and
educationally stimulating environment in which each child is provided the
opportunity to reach their greatest potential as a successful learner.

It is not unusual for first graders to enter the classroom in September with
a wide range of reading, writing, and math skills. This can be attributed
to developmental differences (even an age difference of a few months can
have an enormous effect on the acquisition of skills), differences in
background knowledge/experiences, or perhaps something as simple as how
often they have been read to.

Taking all of these factors into consideration, I firmly believe that all
children are capable of learning. My goal is to get to know your child as
an individual so that I can help them learn what strategies work the best
for them. We will collectively work together so that your child is able to
produce their best work. Hopefully your child will leave first grade with a
thirst for knowledge and the foundational skills that they will need to gain
this knowledge!
