LEAP is designed for children who enjoy
challenges, can handle missing regular class and doing the appropriate make-up
work. They also have to want to have fun in a creative environment. Some
traditional LEAP students need to develop the ability to handle change and
learn how to not know the answer and use strategies to find the answers
on their own.
Each LEAP year (grades 3-6) has a
progressive set of goals for your child. In the primary grades, we focus on
developing: problem solving, team building. Logical, creative and critical
thinking are introduced. The children come to LEAP not knowing how far they
really can push their abilities. Through projects and activities, they begin
to demonstrate what they truly can do.
Children who join LEAP join for the
entire school year. Once a child is in LEAP, they will participate through the
end of Sixth Grade. In Anthony Wayne, Honors and Advanced Placement (AP)
Classes are offered grades 7-12. If at the end of the year (May), the family
and/or teacher decide that the program is not the best fit for the child, the
child may then be removed from the program (this is not a common occurrence).
Parents are invited to help in the
classroom with parties, on field trips and large projects. We will meet in the
fall and spring to set and review the goals of your child's development in the
LEAP program.
