Gifted Education Program Goals

To nurture students’ motivation relative to academic work and increase their 
interest in school

To assist the students in developing a realistic self-concept which 
recognizes their special talents and abilities

To broaden students’ knowledge and experiences

To expand upon students’ mastery of process skills; creativity, logical and 
critical thinking,problem solving, research and study to develop the higher 
level cognitive abilities of analysis, synthesis and evaluation

To strengthen students’ ability to work independently

What does LEAP stand for?

Learning, Enrichment, Acceleration Program  

What that means is:  Learning through Extentions and Accellerated Academics 
by participating in Activities  designed for a student's 
particular need.

What is the purpose of LEAP?
Extend the Ohio Academic Standards in Math, Science, Social Studies and 
Language Arts
                “Above and Beyond” the students current grade level

How is this done?

For 2009-2010 Anthony Wayne plans to bus 3rd and 4th grade students to 
Whitehouse Elementary to expose them to higher level thinking skills, 
accelerated content knowledge, extended content knowledge, and research by 
working on thematic units of study.  This will be done for a full day each 
week throughout the school year.
