At the heart of the Antioch School educational philosophy is the belief that children love to learn, and that learning is experiential. At the Antioch School the mind and body are integrated in an holistic approach to the learning process.
The Antioch School is based upon the ideals of respect and trust. The teachers respect the children as individual learners; they are alert to an individual child's readiness to learn and strive to challenge him or her accordingly. Children are encouraged to approach a problem at their own pace but are also challenged to excel. The school is non-punitive, providing feedback rather than grades, and creating an atmosphere of success and personal responsibility.
The children are empowered as they take responsibility for themselves as learners and community members; with this responsibility comes freedom and trust. The children trust the teachers to support and encourage them in their intellectual, social and physical learning and growing.

Antioch School is a place of discovery and belonging and excitement, based upon the ideals of respect, responsibility and trust, where children’s belief in themselves makes almost anything possible.
Antioch School cherishes a child’s sense of wonder. Children have meaningful opportunities for solitude and reflection, time to observe and experiment, to express themselves, to solve problems, to articulate and make sense of the world. This learning is often active and collaborative, with children creating learning experiences together; time is also provided for individualized learning, through solitude and reflection. At the Antioch School we believe that while childhood is a time to build skills for the future, it is a time to be treasured and enjoyed for its own worth.
