Announcements

Dear Parent(s),

This coming Wednesday is the first day of our End-of-the-Year Camping trip. We are great with both chaperones and drivers. What we still need are firewood and coolers. I have one cooler so far and as far as I know, no one bringing firewood. Also, the tent we used as a kitchen tent to keep the coolers out of the sun and away from raccoons was run down completely and died its last death last year. Please let me know if you have a 'beater' tent we can use for the coolers this year.

Here are links to Kiser Lake State Park. For those of you who have not been there before, it is an approximately 45 minute drive from here. I will provide you with a map. I have sent maps home with parents who have offered to drive and/or chaperone. Extra maps are hanging on the office door.

The children should begin collecting and packing their supplies. Please help your child(ren) select clothing appropriate for the weather, and make sure their dishes and flatware are labeled with their names or initials. If you child is bringing a tent, please have your child put it up in advance of our trip so s/he can know how to assemble it, as well as making certain all of the necessary parts are included with the tent. Missing poles and stakes can be disastrous. Include a ground tarp if rain is in the forecast (and it usually is ), most tents do not have an effectively waterproof floor.

If you are chaperoning, remember to bring your dishes and flatware (and your coffee cup).

I still need the camping fee of $30.00 from a few families.

On another topic: the chickens.

I had planned to take the chicks home over the summer for ease of care, but raccoons have killed my last two chickens and I don't want to jeopardize the school chickens safety and well being. Their coop is complete and ready to house them, and some of the children have been kind enough to offer to come over in shifts to take care of them. I have purchased a feeder and waterer which should keep them fed and watered for a few days. I am hoping to set up a schedule for chicken-care. If people sign up for different weeks and stop by twice each week to check on them, I think we'll have chicken care taken care of. Both Sally and I will also be able to help out. Please let me know if you and/or your child would like to drop by to make sure the chicks have food and water, and what week(s) you would be available.

Also, would you be able to pick up a bale of straw to drop off at school for the chickens?

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Chris
